Im a new newbie
My neighbour is German and travels back home on a regular basis for his work. He has just arrived back this morning and tells me that French Customs are causing real problems for ferry passengers by searching every vehicle in depth . They were very rude and are are causing as much chaos as possible for anyone from the UK and from conversations overheard are intent on punishment for Brits for both Brexit and the NI protocol. The ferry unusually had virtually no lorries on board and only a small number of cars - amazing on a Monday morning.

I got stopped in Calais- the customs officers were polite and did a very quick look in the boot. From being flagged down I was on my way in 5mins

About a week ago we were disembarking at Venice from a ferry from Greece and it was taking a long time. Qhen we got onto the quay we fouund that every vehicle was being stopped by Guardia di Finanza(Italian Customs). We were asked where we were going, how much alcohol and money we had, but I doubt if they took much notice of the answers.

We were probably the only UK vehicle on board, so not UK/Brexit related, but why being stopped on a EU 'open border'?

And don't forget the fishing malarkey, they were always going to make life tough, surprised it's taken them so long.
How are the French going to punish UK? Treating UK like the Third Country it is after leaving the EU, on the same terms as other Third Countries, i.e. those who are not EU Member States, is not a punishment, it is a consistent application of EU Regulations and Laws

Passport only check at the tunnel gas check by UK border chap, French bloke looked then looked away so took that as an ok😁😁

No fake news on the start of this thread....... my neighbour is a German Doctor and has no reason to lie. I will be going to Spain and save my cash next year. Cannot see that the politics of Brexit for or against it comes into play . It should simply revert to the same border treatment as of before we joined the EU.

But you referred to the politics, quote 'They were very rude and are are causing as much chaos as possible for anyone from the UK and from conversations overheard are intent on punishment for Brits for both Brexit and the NI protocol.' so you introduced the topic of Brexit ....

Procedures at any Customs post anywhere may have changed over the past 40-odd years...............

From my post of October 10th

"Came back to UK in 6th so no pre-departure tests needed. Ordered 2 Day 2 tests from Expert Medical on 4th, used reference numbers on PLF forms with no problems. Nearly 5 weeks in France and loved every minute. Busy aires mind you.
Only fly in the ointment was we came back on DFDS, for the first time, as the tunnel was twice the price. French customs took it upon themselves to search the van, I mean search every space and all the bedding. The officer had on a pair of wooly gloves and was continuing wiping his nose on them. Not sure if he was looking for a huge drugs haul or a very small migrant.
Full antibacterial wipedown was required."

Lots of funsters have been going and coming over the water and under it, none have reported what you’ve said, maybe your neighbour has he’s own agenda…🤷🏼‍♂️

Nope. The bloke wasn't rude. Neither was his mate who stood outside and did nothing to speed the process along.

That was not our experience on entering or exiting France this July & August. Yes the M'home was searched before we got onto the Ferry at Dunkerque but for us that is nothing new and it has happened to us on more than one occasion and before Brexit too. Other than that, we were treated with respect and not subject to any abuse in any form from the French border force or from the French as a whole for that matter.

I think we would all agree that would be nice, but it’s not possible. If your a member of a club you have club benefits and privileges the further down the line we go with other trade agreements different laws etc etc the harde it would be to have the same boarder treatment as before.
