Hi
Right I am sure this is probably a stupid question to may but I really have no clue.

My motorhome came with a wind up dish some sort of decoder and this signal tester thingy (please See pics) I have bought a new smart tv.

I am assuming I should be able to use the dish with my new TV to at least get the free view channels in the UK?

I get that the dish needs to point the right way and I can find some instructions on line for that but as far as how to connect it to the tv can someone please give me some basic instructions.

I appear to have 2 cables coming in 1 black 1 white. Is this just to enable 2 tv's??

Do I need the de coder? Or can I just go straight to tv??

At a guess the two leads are satellite dish and perhaps a terrestrial aerial. To connect to the TV it looks like you need a SCART lead.

But what model is your new TV? It might have a built in decoder. :)

Since 2007
if you have a "F type connector at the TV then direct to TV, if not the its scart from the decoder to the TV.

Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
Right, lets simplify this for you mate.

What you have on the roof is a single LNB satellite system, put simply this means just one outlet to the inside of your motorhome whereas a home system usually has two outputs.
Most systems now have a twin LNB, all this means is that if you had that system, you'd be able to watch one channel whilst recording another, so lets put that one to bed.
If you have a smart phone, there are many free apps to show you where to point the satellite dish, so that's much easier than it sounds.

Your new TV would need to have a satellite receiver built in to use your satellite dish, have a wee look at the instructions for the TV to find out of it does accept satellite TV.

Forget about the scart socket (the kinda oblong socket on your control box in your motorhome) as these are no longer compatible with modern TVs & your new TV will not have a scart connector.

The F plug which has been mentioned here is a small screw in type socket on your TV & from your satellite dish.

Now if your new TV has satellite built in, it'll be freeview satellite, put simply this needs no subscription & will give you plenty of channels to watch.

If your motorhome has a TV aerial too, its needs to be directional, in other words there will be a pole inside your motorhome which can elevate the TV aerial. Then this aerial needs to be pointed at the nearest TV mast in exactly the same way as your TV at home, this is easily done by looking at aerials around you & working out where to point the aerial.
Further to that the aerial will be able to sit vertically or horizontally, this sounds very complicated but, once you start fiddling with it, everything will begin to make sense.

Feel free to PM me if you need more advice & if you don't have the instructions for your satellite system, I can photocopy mine & email that to you.

Hope this is helpful & doesn't have too much jargon?
