Can you recommend a nice stop over in the Forest of Dean / Ross on Wye area?
We have a coachbuilt motorhome, so needs to be a large-ish area with no height restrictions.
On site services not really necessary.

If you haven't been or don't know of one, if you would rather not go there, or would recommend somewhere else entirely, please dont comment.

Hello Simonjdcooper
  • Ellwood FC
  • The Rising Sun at Mosley Green by Parkend
  • The Fountain at Parkend
  • The Miners at Sling
  • Staunton Lay-by
  • Bracelands
  • Newland CLs
There are a few Lay-by that you can stop in without trouble. I usually use one 1/2 mile East of Staunton on A4136. Road is normally pretty quiet after 9. I usually walk up through woods and back down to village pub - White Horse. Don’t walk down road is my advise.
Campsites, Braceland as stated. There is a couple of CMC CL just outside Coleford at Newland that are good. Ostrich pub in walking distance.
The three pubs are typical pub stops i.e. you have to eat/drink in the pubs to pay for your night. Rising Sun is most in the woods so to speak. I typically park on road when going to Fountain because parking is tight at 8m+
Ellwood is a CCC CS. Will be full of Funsters on a rally this weekend though so avoid unless there is space. Check with Stu (Silkcut).

Brookside is a nice site with a great pub 5 mins walk also Rushmere is good and you have the white horse in Staunton (our favourite for food). If your just going for one night stop over and you want a meal in either of the pubs you’ll need to book a table.
