We collected our new campervan yesterday and it had 30 miles on the clock.
When driving home we got the ‘Service due’ message on the display, cancelled it by selecting ‘OK’ and it popped up again a few miles further on.

Any ideas why this is?

is it actually 12 months old from build date so asking for an inspection? probably needs a scanner to reset

Ford had/have huge issues with the quality of fuel injectors fitted to Transit models, which are dependant on build date. Worst case is you are part of that batch. A test at a Ford dealer should highlight any issues. If issues then Ford will replace faulty injectors.

Second.....were you driving slowly in a high gear eg sixth? My transit has given a similar message if travelling in sixth and revs drop below about 1500 revs. Resets itself once I changed down a gear!

Thanks for the suggestion. It’s this years van - only a handful of miles on the clock.

It’s possible that the revs were too low as it’s all new to us. Will keep an eye on the revs 👍🏻

Do they have a service 'clock' based on time rather than milage if so then that could have been triggered.
Also your van might be a 2021 registered in 2021 by a converter but it may have been made in Turkey in 2020 or 2019...

Is it a 2.0 or 2.2?

They dropped down and then back up iirc.

Firstly check the level of your Adblue on the dash computer, I doubt it's full, you'll also have the option of altering the service mileage. Forget what capacity the engine is, whether it's a 2.0 130 or 170 makes no difference. The injector recall effects Customs & Transits built between 2019 - 2021 regardless of registration or conversion date, your Custom may have been build as long as 2 years ago... there's no such thing as a new vehicle. A quick chat with your local Transit Centre will give you the info on that. If you do need new injectors or the software upgrade book it in soonest as the corrosion issue can lead to fuel leaks which if allowed to irrigate into the wet timing belt sum can half the life of said belt. This is also the reason why an engine flush isn't performed on the Eco Blue Panther. Get the Ford PassPro app which once registered will also hold a lot of info regarding your base vehicle. Remember too that for the initial three years of ownership, only a Transit Centre can service your vehicle.

You'll enjoy the Custom, it's a 1st class van... even better than the much loved VW T6.

Thanks for all this excellent info. I will get the app and check it out.
Tracker fitted this morning and spent all afternoon wrestling with the pop-up roof but I’m sure it will all become second nature.

Is the 2.0 smoother than the 2.2 puma engine.

The 2.0 VW is better than the 2.2 puma tbh more so with the dsg.

The 2.2 feels agricultural tbh, powerful esp when tuned but still agricultural. However when I had it chipped it did feel smoother.

Might get it chipped again... Long story re dpf!

Interesting...

Nope, it voids the 3 year warranty.
I don’t think that’s correct. My understanding after having to ask the same question from Ford is that the Vehicle is subject to service requirements with approved parts etc but does not have to be a Ford dealer, except if you wish to validate breakdown scheme. Warranty work must be carried out by authorised dealership.

The 2.0 Panther is smooth and quieter than the Puma and Fiats new Multijet III. In terms of performance and tugging it's also very, very capable. Compared to it's nearest conversion rival The 130ps has more pull that Fiats 160 & 180 when the latter are mated to the MT, a max of 380Nm compared to the Panther's 385Nm. The 170ps Panther is pushing 410Nm in MT form. Even the 105ps (360Nm) Panther runs rings around the MJ III 140ps. Fiat have lowered emissions by dropping performance, Ford have lowered emissions by adding a further DPF and improved exhaust gas recirculation.

Both Ford & VAG are Euro 7 ready.

The 2.0 VAG found in the T6 has about 320Nm of tugging power.

That's not what Stoneacre, Polar and as far south as Doncaster told me with the motorhome. I've also enquired with established commercial centres around Harrogate & York and they said whilst it's under warranty they won't touch it due to not having the software as Ford won't share. If I could take it to the van garage over the road I would, rather than spend an hour driving it across to York.

Understand your predicament but that does not void the original warranty. No reason for an independent garage not to carry out service work as per Ford guidelines and warranty will not be affected. As long as garage uses appropriate parts/fluids etc and maintains record of work undertaken.

thanks.

MT??

All I can say from personal experience with a 2021 ( build 2020 ) Transit Custom PHEV, is that the van has a mind of its own. Mine constantly tells me that I have an issue with the seatbelt pre tensioners and airbags, it doesn't start, it doesn't charge, it doesn't do anywhere near the range that it should, the power steering fails daily, the app has constantly told me that I have NO oil! I could wax lyrical about how crap my van is but hopefully, yours being a fossil fuelled van, the issues will be easily rectified mechanical ones rather than the software gremlins I have.
Good luck.

Quick update. Van taken for diagnostic check and looks like it’s fuel injector issue as you suggested.

They are keeping it until Friday to sort it out for us then, hopefully, we will finally be able to get away in it.

Need everyone to cross their fingers and toes.

If it is injectors then hopefully it’s an easy replacement and it’s sorted. You can relax and enjoy travelling! Are they replacing them all. Ford did agree that for motorhomes all the injectors could be replaced rather than just one that showed up as requiring replacement on a test.
