Just had 5 days wilding in the area, some exceptionally high tides this last 2 days the River Nith has flooded a lot of surrounding land, the very popular Glencaple Quay used by many for overnighting was under a couple of inches at high tide yesterday but just look at it today an even higher tide and gale force SW winds have really pushed the water up. The 1 st photo many will recognise the millennium torch normally upright and has the honesty box attached. But look at the 3rd photo looking out across the quay it’s under there somewhere. ???

Yes, one of my very old friends is a retired Ships Captain and is a volunteer with Nith Rescue - their shed and equipment all flooded. A real mess.

The water is over at the Whitesands too and it came a bit quicker than exposing some cars still parked there.

Couldn’t get to Glencaple yesterday from Kingholm direct even after flooding had receded the amount of ldebris blocking the road in two places. It was a long detour around to Castle Corner to overnight.

Whitesands flooding has been a problem for years! Even when we stayed in Dumfries back in the 60's.

I can remember the mid 80s the water being over 5 ft deep in my dads pub on the sands, on average the Nith bursts it’s banks at the Whitesands twice a year I’d reckon, thankfully the majority of the time it never reaches premises.

Ouch, tis a shame to see Glencaple under water like this but, it is still officially winter.
Much safer setting up camp on the other side of the water & the view is arguably better over the Cumbrian Fells.
