Fitting an awning to motorhome

Hi I have just had a brand new awning to my moterhome and I have put my drive away to it but when it rains water all runs down inside the porch part as if it running behind the body Connected to the motorhome where it’s bolted now should this have been sealed with a mastic or type does anyone know has anyone fitted one before

Your side awning is usually held on by 3 separate brackets bolted to your van side wall.
You can buy an optional awning rubber rain guard that diverts most of the rain water away.

There are various awning to motorhome seal depending on your awning mounting.
I have this one fitted on ours.

Thanks I have to get up and see if I can see the rubber as not sure they put it on as seam to leak around it and soak the in side of my drive away awining

Yes that's what they normally do.

Ok just normal bathroom sealer clear on top

Yes I would use a silicon as its fairly easy to get off and not providing any structural purpose. If you use a PU like Sikaflex very difficult to remove if you ever need to.

Normally the gap is sealed, has been on every van we have had.

The gap is usually sealed if it is a factory fit awning, or at least it was with my Hymer. It is quite wide and a lot of sealant is needed, but that is not a problem in the factory where they have bulk feed sealant guns. But not sure if that happens with dealer fit items.

If you have a Fiamma awning it would be better to use the strip they sell, see post #2. I fitted it on my previous motorhome with a Fiamma awning and it was easy and worked well. If you use a silicone sealant I suspect it will need much more that "just a bead". The gap on my present awning is about 25mm, so it would take quite a few tubes.

Funny how you never knew things could be a problem but our van has a gutter under the awning which catches the leakage - never thought about it until now

Something wrong there if the proper brackets had been used for your Hymer it should only be about 6mm.

Ok just normal bathroom sealer clear on top

Dosnt adhere to anything water gets underneath and goes mouldy black especially if use clear the Fiamma seal is best I’ve got to remove my horrible silicon

I used the Fiamma rubber strip on my Fiamma 45s awning, worth the money and effort to fit.....
