Fitting a new element in truma boiler?

Contacted Wilmond (as suggested by Maz) who advised that the element are no longer available as part number 34020-61100 circa £120 BUT are now supplied as a KIT (elements, couple of 3mm ish nuts and a few rubber seals) part number 34020-00228 circa £300.

several sites have them listed @ £294.12, makes me mad that this looks like another case of enforced retail price fixing. There are more than a few companies out there who will not allow dealer & retail outlets to sell below their RRP.

Is this legal, certainly not moral.

ok, so have ordered a new Element KIT at great expense from Outdoorbits (5%discount) which comes to £275 inc postage.

only circa £150 more than last element replacement.

Spooky, I could see it on my laptop but I cannot see it when on my mobile. I think the BT network I am temporarily connected to is the culprit.
 
@maz had a link from another site to a graphic in her signature that somehow scammers had swapped out. So rather than a little dog. Mutley I think it was, the advert for xwinner appeared in its place. No links though, so not dangerous, as long as you don't head over To xwinner. Who knows what traps they might have there for the unwary.

Ok. I thought I'd better edit my signature to remove the offending link but am obviously losing the plot as I can't find any way of editing my profile. This despite the fact that a few days or so ago I managed to edit my motorhome type to used to have one, and add that I now live on a boat. Can anyone tell me how to edit my signature please? :oops:

Ok folks,

Just replaced the heaters for a second time last done in 2014. Than the heater element were circa £115, NOW circa £300. In fairness the new heater "KIT" comes with a complete set of gasket and surprisingly screws & nuts.

Given I had a complete set of gaskets and giving some thought to the failure!

The heater elements sit in between two aluminium fins as shown below. img_0357.jpg

Looking down the heater finning it was apparent at the element failure point there was something not quite right with the fins.

So armed with seal kit removed the burner assembly and took the burner/finned core out of the water jacket.

Found the core had at some time impacted the water jacket and distorted the aluminium fins. Assume therefore that the distortion led to hot spots (localised over heating of the elements causing premature failure) img_0359.jpg

Bit of a phaff and you need to take a few photos during strip down to ensure no issues on rebuild. note wiring in particular.

The learning point is previously replacing the heaters without access to the core to tighten the aluminium fins onto the new heaters is perhaps flawed and will result in element failure reasonably quickly. (sell quick)

However have run the heater and all is well.

Would share felt a bit of a Pratt having rebuilt the heater installed, tested on gas, OK, tried on electric "RED Lockout" looked at all the connections, scratched head. SWMBO said are you sure the powers on, course it said I, FS I'm an ex power engineer. So outcomes the meter, NO ac volts at heater, back to power panel...... OOPS power off to water heater & Heating. Cough Cough, its working now......

Anyway happy to discuss with anyone needing a hand.

PS the new kit is eye wateringly expensive but|

As can be seen here with my 6002 the whole cabinetry has to be dismantled just to see it. A 6002EH would need it completely removing to do the work. Man hour intensive

Hi Andy, I have the same as you. Did you replace the element? Is there only one element or two? are they / it accessed from the bottom? Do you need replacement gaskets? do they come with the elements and any other info you could provide would help before I tackle mine. Many thanks in advance.
 
My boiler is gas only. I did buy a spare for future that has elements of which there are two. I don't think there are any gaskets as it appears that the elements are external to the water tank

Unfortunately these elements fail very frequently, just run it on gas you can buy an awful lot of gas for £400

Thanks for your replay and photos, I thought they / it would be like an immersion heater type that slid into the bottom of the water reservoir. Clearly not the case here! I assume that unit (view from the top) is the element which lifts out?

Started the strip out to replace the 240v elements in my Truma C6002EH. It is installed under the fixed bed so access is not too bad with the bed swung up. To make life easier I thought I would remove the side panel of the underbed framing, nine screws securing it. Only four of the nine screws...
