I went to Portugal in the van in January and only had 8 days for he trip in total including travel time so drove both ways non stop (Archaeology field visit rather than a holiday). Left Calais at 9pm and was parked up in Portugal early evening the following day. Obviously you don't want to do that by choice and I personally felt 3 days would have been perfect, stopping somewhere North of Bordeaux and again just past Burgos. The weather was only around 12 degrees, however, beautiful sunny days made it an absolute pleasure to be there.
Well that makes me feel better knowing I've got longer to get there

Taking my first real trip sometime next week. I want the sun so I guess I’ll be heading to Spain/Portugal. Any advice appreciated, also Anyone along the way, would be great to have a beer with you.
Mickey
If you want the best chance of good weather then the Mediterranean coast of Spain is where to head. Anywhere between say Valencia and Almería should have a good chance of sun but the "sweet spot" weather-wise is probably Benidorm. :)

But my suggestion would be to look at the weather forecast and choose your destination based on that. If it looks good in Portugal then go there.

Personally, shooting down in three days wouldn't be my idea of fun. About two weeks would be better for me because even in the depths of winter there are castles, villages and churches to poke around along the route. :)

And there are huge tides this weekend so if you can get to the west coast of France there could be good foraging opportunities or perhaps just a good storm to watch.

Just had to up my mileage with AIB INSURANCE, Had 3000, £120 to up it to 8000. Oh well, at least I don’t have to worry about how many miles I’m clocking up.
