Apparently I may have nonconforming steering knuckles! They do sound serious. Got the letter today so phoned the nice Adam Morey people in Bournemouth who were impressed by my speediness. Booked in for the 19th April, half an hour to check and then if it needs doing it’s a 3-4 hour job. He says he can then do it before our exotic first expedition to Norden Farm, oh how we laughed.

Our van is 2019 Fiat ducato Comformatic 2.3 , might be worth checking in case the letters are sent out in batches as garages may be booked up.

All my details are at home. Is it just the 2017 model that affected?

Sorry, rushing, so it is likely our 2018 could be affected with dodgy knuckles.

Impossible to predict to be honest, just wonder if you have your V5 uploaded anywhere to check. Just a thought. I have copies of everything online just in case, even photos of V5s , passports and drivers licences.

No i don't but now you mention it i will be doing when i get home. Thanks.

Doncha lurve the quality of these X290s. I've had 3 recalls so far on my 2017 van. Although I have read that some recent Jaguars are notoriously even worse for the number of recalls.

I hear a completely new Ducato will replace the the current model in 2024. We live in hope that it won't have any niggly recalls ...

I hope you don’t think I was implying that you should have, I’m a bit neurotic about this sort of thing having had two of my children spend time abroad when they were at Uni so it’s tended to stay with me and run over into all aspects of life! Even now Mum is the go to person for info.

I think almost every new vehicle we have had have had a recall or few. Don't think it will change in the future.
Only my BMW RT LE bike had 2 recalls, other bikes no.

Not at all. I thank for the tip, great idea.

I've got this on my 2019 5.4m PVC. Now to find a professional dealer who wants to deal with me. And then to decide if I want to get the van out of SORN to get it fixed.

Add this to the Autotrail recall for something to do with the compartment around the fridge may not be properly sealed, once out of lockdown all I'm going to be doing is driving to garages.

Spoke to the DAF type garage in Guildford. They didn't know anything of this until people started phoning. They have their first one booked for Thursday and won't take others till then as they don't yet know what tools and other stuff they need. Sounds like Fiat haven't given them much of a heads up!

I’ve just seen that this is the one that Wombles highlighted back at the end of Jan but Karen was clearly too quick for the Govt website and the garages because it was news to Adam Morey at Bournemouth and they are big with branches in Southampton and Portsmouth. He found it instantly on his computer and whilst we were chatting said “oh damn” because his needed it too and joked he’d practice on his first.

We’ve had a good experience with the Southampton one when we needed warranty work done on our previous van and only went there because the necessary piece of machinery had gone wrong at the Bournemouth branch.

Just checked with local Fiat Pro garage. Mines ok thankfully.

My 2019 was just before this vin number --- starting - 02H8
Didn't see the vin number at first. Mines 02J9 👍

Ours is *****02J2**** so looks like it was built before the dodgy knuckles. I hope.

I got the recall letter today too. Also booked in with Adams Morey for the check up but if faulty it will put paid to our holiday plans. Apparently Fiat do not release the replacement parts before the fault is confirmed.

Kannon Fodda, hope your well(y) I dont think you will get very far with The DAF/Fiat Professional Garage in Guildford, its our most local one too, they tend to do large lorries mainly and the Yard is very tight, didn't feel I wanted to leave my van there.
The Fiat Prof Garage in Crawley did help out on one simple recall, but then when the next recall came said their ramps were not big enough and "Our Fiat Mechanic is no longer with us" but give them a try you never know, they may have replaced "Him" by now.:giggle:
The only other one I can find is near Reading, Theale just off M4, but I haven't used them yet, but they do loads of Vans & Lorries, looks like a proper outfit on Google Earth at least.
Good luck, it looks like its harder for us living where we do to find a Fiat Prof garage that will accept MH's, maybe you will be luckier with your PVC.(y)

We’ve used the place at Theale for a previous recall check and annual service, no complaints here.

Mine is booked in at the end of the month posted here about it a few weeks ago

I don't think any of the Professional grade garages are ideal for our pride and joys. HGVs are undoubtedly a different beast to our vehicles. I've been past the Barnes Guildford one a couple of times now - my car dealer is on the same estate. Reading is becoming a bit of a trek, but there may be another site Slough area not far from the M25 Heathrow area which I might have to checkout if the Guildford site is no good.

The real pain in the rear will be if is does need work done. Looks like that would take a few hours. All of these places are in the middle of nowhere so loosing yourself for a few hours is going to be a challenge and I doubt they have got anywhere you can just sit to wait it out, especially with Covid.

Yes I know exactly how you feel, I was luckily visiting The Audi Garage just up the road, so had time to walk down to Barnes Guildford, went in and had a chat etc. They knew nothing about the recall back then in 2018, I didnt like the look of the yard with so many trucks, & vans parked up so closely, so bailed out of going there.
Slough is a pain to get to & from, I would want to arrange for a service while I wait also, but knowing my luck it would end up being a Uber back home.
Still at least we have one good vote for The Theale one, thus far.(y) Thanks RowleyBirkinQC

Carolyn Who did the letter come from Fiat DVLA or Dealership?
