I'm a slightly less experienced newbie and still learning
Hi
About to take out the above on a new A/T and am wondering how efficient the breakdown cover is in France/Spain, how long sat on the side of the road waiting for recovery and then time for repairs to take place etc?
I'm sure there are a few events/stories in this respect to be told (some good some bad) more of the former I hope!
Before, I have been with the CAMC and their Red Penant cover gets lots of plaudits.
Seems senseless to pay for 2 lots of cover, especially if the Fiat one is ok.
Thanks

Just out of interest, what is the cost of extending the warranty to five years (from the normal three if that's what Fiat offer as standard) and adding a service contract for say three major and three intermediate services?

I'm trying to compare it with VW/MAN on a Crafter/TGE. With that manufacturer the warranty includes roadside assistance anywhere in Europe.

In Spain, a recovery vehicle came to the campsite just half an hour after I rang Fiat Assist back in February. Would have been horrendous if they'd backloaded the motorhome. As it was Fiat Assist passed me over to the RAC, and they found a local garage that would take my van in without an appointment. It was still drivable. They diagnosed the problem, and I went next day and within half an hour it was sorted with a new sensor. Later I got a phone call back from both the RAC and Fiat Assist to ask if it had been sorted. First class service. However, I still have Red Pennant, and it cover several things Fiat Assist almost certainly doesn't cover.

What do Red Pennant cover that Fiat misses?

You get 3 years full Camper Assist with your new van. Years 4 and 5, full warranty and Camper Assist is £899 I think.

Service contracts I have no idea about, but I’m not sure Fiat offer that to Motorhomes.🤷‍♂️ Individual Dealerships probably do….but as I say, not sure.

The extended warranty has to be applied for within 14 days I think. No one told me when we bought ours new in 2019. I tried to arrange it 6 weeks after buying the van but no deal. All /fiat said that if I had the van serviced as stated in the book they would look favourably at any occurring issues. Not that I have had any. Re breakdown when in France lorry came within 1 hour. The only thing to watch is where they want to take you. Insist on a /fiat garage as they get a drink if they take it to one of the recovery’s own.

On our new motorhome - August 2022 - Fiat assist is only 2years. It was 3 years on our 2020 motorhome, so it seems to have change recently.

I missed out on the extended warranty due to not being told about the 14 day period by the dealer.

Funny enough…..missed out on Skoda’s extended warranty as that one as to be purchased at the time of ordering the new car……and guess what? Salesman never told me that.🤦‍♂️

I think it depends on how the vehicle was sourced. If the base Fiat was purchased from a UK Fiat dealer before conversion then there is an extra year provided by Fiat dealers. If it was direct from Fiat or a European Fiat dealer then it is the standard 2 years.

Both motorhomes French , Pilote and now Rapido, so both would have been sourced in Europe.

I email Fiat customer service directly for my new Burstner sept 2019 and they confirmed via email that the Fiat camper assist is for three years, its just the motorhome that is only 2 years.

The duration of Fiat Camper assist depends on your converter as well. If it’s not on Fiat’s list of recognised converters it will only be 2 years eg IH are not on the list so 2 years, also Vantage and Consort.

I'd have thought Rapido would be a recognised converter

My 2012 Bessacarr had 2 years Fiat warranty & camper assist plus a 3rd year European camper assist provided by Swift, via the AA I think it was.

My 2022 Adria Twin pvc still only gets 2 years camper assist with 2 year warranty as standard. I bought the extra warranty via a Fiat commercial dealer that my supplier sourced for me.

My 2017 Rapido (reg 18) was only 2 years and again no mention of extended warrenty being available.

The warranty period all depends on how the base vehicle was brought into the UK if a European supplier it's 2yrs, if imported by a UK company it's still 2yrs but with a extra 1yr by the converter but still up to the converters discretion.

Ah right , I think that’s what I meant but you explained it much better! The small U.k converters like ours seem to have 2 years.,Perhaps it’s some of the bigger ones who do it as a sweetener. I know with our first IH we thought we had the 3rd year so drove around without breakdown cover abroad for the 3rd year! Didn’t make that mistake with our 2nd IH.

Non UK converters only get 2 years warranty from Fiat, but get 3 years Camper Assist.

Ditto re the 2 years. Although bought from Highbridge about 30mls away we paid for the extended warranty from Chelston Morohomes who are our nearest Fiat Professional workshop about 4 miles away. Good value warranty for the extra 3 years considering the European Breakdown cover.

Oh dear, I seem to have opened a can of worms with my question.

Right - VW Crafter (a MAN TGE is exactly the same vehicle with different badges) has a three year warranty as standard which can be extended to five years. MAN (as that's who I'm dealing with) offer various service packages, the top one is three main services plus three intermediate services within a seven year period from first registration.
Any warranty on a conversion on the vehicle is dependant on the conversion company.
With MAN the repair and/or roadside assistance is (as I understand it) direct with MAN throughout Europe and being a major HGV and coach supplier has 24/7 coverage although not at all workshops.

Time will tell how good this actually is although hopefully I won't have need of any of the warranty/assistance.

Right I'm confused! I'm getting a new Adria Twin 640 in June/July 2023 on a Fiat Ducato. Ordered it from GMC in Shrewsbury whilst at Birmingham show. We live on south coast but didn't buy from a local dealer for a number of reasons including them having no slots left. If I want an extended warranty would I buy it from the GMC, A local Adria dealer or Fiat Professional which probably be Adams Morey in Portsmouth. I'm thinking I don't want to trek up to Shrewsbury when there are problems. Thanks in advance and sorry for hijacking the thread RGR723

If the base vehicle is a Fiat, and you want a comprehensive’Base Vehicle’ warranty, then that’s where to go. But you have a strict time limit of 14 days to get it…..after the vehicle is registered and NOT from when you collect it.

I thought Adria offered a 5 year Habitation warranty…..well they were when we were looking 3 years ago. We ended up buying a Sunlight, which came with a 5 year Habitation warranty……but to keep it valid our Habitation checks needed to be done by a Sunlight Dealer.

Your Base Vehicle and Habitation side are usually separate warranties. A Fiat Professional Dealership is unlikely to be interested in the Habitation side of things.👍

You can purchase your extended warranty from your nearest Fiat professional garage. The warranty claims will be dealt with by which ever fiat garage you go to to have the problem sorted.
