My engine battery is 7/8 years old and still holds its voltage and has never not performed well. I have had it checked twice for battery "condition?" and both times the magic tester has reported - 30% - Replace. As I am hoping to have 3 trips to Spain and France this year I plan to replace it rather than be caught out whilst abroad. After quite a bit of research I found that both a 019 or a 020 batteries will fit with the 020 being a bit larger and more powerful (019 is 100Ah with 900A @ £105 and 020 is 110Ah and 950A @ £116 both Yuasa 5000 from Tayna) The current battery was factory fitted late 2014 build for 2015 model and is an 020 battery. I am planning to buy the large and slightly more expensive 020 battery and thought I should ask for members thoughts - the money is not an issue but the bigger battery is heavier and more difficult to fit. (2.3 130 bhp manual engine)

A second question if I may - has anyone changed a battery on an X290 Ducato cab? (under the floor on left hand side front footwell) My dash has the double cup holder below the radio and I was wandering if this has to be removed to get the battery out?

If anyone else is looking for a replacement battery I found Tayna.co.uk - 01745 823399 - very helpful, great prices and fast delivery - £116 delivered from Tayna and £256 from Euro Spares counter. Halfords and other local battery specialist all expensive.

No need to remove cup holder, and is a very simple swap. I’ve just swapped mine to one of these from Tayna, for £79

I changed my after 4 years, it went flat once when my CBE split charge relay went intermittent, when I checked the battery it appeared to be about 60% capacity, it would have probably gone on for another 4 years but with the risk of the Airbag ECU problems with low voltage for the sake of £100 I changed it. Old one os still in my garage holding it's charge well.

I fitted a 100ah Yuasa 5000 £105 from Halfords with Trade Card (you can apply for one online).
You don't need to take the cup holder out, battery comes out easy but to get the new one in you need to unscrew the fuse holder Hymer fit to the battery box, it has a 20 amp blade fuse & 50 amp Blade maxi fuse in it.

Best not to leave the battery disconnected for more than 15 min then follow the correct procedure before starting the engine. Which I think is, after connecting the new battery leave for 15 min, then turn on ignition leave for 2or 3 min, turn off, leave for 5 min, then you can start it. It's to make sure all the ECU's boot up.

Thanks for all the replies. Good news about the cup holders and I had spotted the fuse holder! I have B2B and new charger all with cables into the box which will make life a little more complex. I have my old Hab battery which I keep charged in the garage and plan to couple it up to the battery points under the bonnet to save any issues with the electronics.🤞 Looks like you are fitting the 019 batteries and I assume that they are working fine. As I said, mine was down to 30% but still holding 12.77v and starting has never been an issue. Will look at the Exide 100Ah battery as it has 900A starting power. Given the MH do not generally do the stop starting that vans do I guess we do not need quite as much extra grunt??

Just ordered an Exide Premium 100Ah 019 Battery from Tayna - even found a 5% code that gave almost £2 off!

Thanks everyone.:giggle:(y)
