Hi

After a good deal of trouble we have decided the only way to get around a problem of a flat battery is to remove the drivers seat. The habitation battery is in the most awkward place. Unfortunately neither the solar cells or the mains will charge the battery. Possibly because the voltage has dropped below 10 vs. Anyone got any bright ideas as to how to remove the seat - it has four bolts at the rear and two large grub screws at the front.

One problem we may encounter is an alarm to set off the drivers airbag?

We use a CTEK Smart charger and found that this recon's our old battery, even though it was really
flat.
Cheers

Unless the design has changed there are two bolts down the front of the seat box and two Allen bolts IN the rear of the seat runners.

You need to verify but disconnecting the seat sensor should have no effect on the airbags, they are just presence sensors to indicate the seat is occupied and trigger the bag in a collision....empty seat, no airbag inflation.

On our new Fiat based van there is also a bolt on the left hand rear that you need a very thin spanner to undo it, once slackened and you've removed all the other bolts lift the seat slightly and you can undo this last bolt with your finger tips but be careful of the seat weight.

Hi John
Seat anchorage has changed slightly. Ours is a Flash 2014 model with 4 bolts (2 each side in the runners) at the rear and one large Allen screw in the runner at the front.

Thanks for the tip regarding the sensors.

Jez - hi,

Chasson Flash 2014 model.

Do you realise how much it all weighs. Once the bolts are undone you would then have to man handle the seat out. Removing the top piece first is easy and once removed you can see the other bolts. The back two don't have to be removed as the seat has a forked piece at the back to locate it. Everything is done easily in the factory. They certainly won't be grubbing around trying to fit bolts at the back of seats. If the Ducato / Citroen has a bulkhead installed then you cannot get to the bolts anyway so they need a way of just sliding the frame in.

The smaller seat frame works and reduces the eye level by 1" does not sound a lot but it does mean you get a slightly better view of the road ahead. One problem you do get when you use the lower seat base is the plastic seat surrounds don't fit ...

Hi all you seat removers!

We have just gone through this operation on our Chausson Flash 626 which is on a Fiat Ducato base. The drivers seat is a Captains seat and so revolves. There is no bulkhead behind that so we have full access to all bolts on the seat runners.

I completed the task with a breakdown guy who fortunately knew a little about caravans which helped. It took us about two hours to totally remove it, change the battery and then re-install the seat.

I was asked by a member to post the list of instructions in the Resources Section.
Anyone wanting those will find them under CHAUSSON 626 (2014) REMOVING DRIVERS SEAT.

Hope it helps, but you are right they are heavy!
