Hello campers !

Our nearly new motor home came with 3 Fiamma security door locks, one each for the garage doors and one for the habitation door.

I have been looking at the six keys we were given for these locks and only two keys fit all 3 locks. We have been given 4 keys for locks that we don’t have.
We still have some months remaining on our guarantee and thought it only reasonable to ask the dealer to replace the set for three matching locks with six matching keys.

Do you think this is a reasonable request as the dealer so far has only said that he will ‘have a look in the box of keys to see what he can find’

All help welcome. Thanks

I think your entitled to all the keys for all the locks (y)
Having said that if you have two keys that fit all locks it's not really such a problem is it ? And I dare say that's how the dealer will view it

If you’ve got two keys that fit all three locks, what’s the problem. If you had just been given those two keys in the first place you would be none the wiser. Why would you need six keys? The dealer has given you the correct keys for the locks on the vehicle, along with some that are not but I expect that’s what they were given when they took the vehicle in.
Getting some extras cut is very cheap.

.......only two keys fit all 3 locks.
If two aren't enough can't you have more keys cut from one of those that fit all?
I don't know about Madrid but there's a Timpsons booth in the car park at my local Tesco and they have cut all sorts of keys for me (m/h, house, car, m/bike...) while I'm shopping.
There is also a locksmith in town who cuts keys while I wait.

I thought with a nearly new motorhome less than a year old I should expect all the keys to be present and correct but maybe I'm being fussy. These locks and keys get used a lot so I fear they will wear out quickly. Well I did a quick google search and it seems you can buy a new set of barrels easily.

Not much reference to services that cut these cylinder shape keys as spares but I suppose if you say locksmiths do it then great.

If it's the round barrel type of key they are not easy to replace/cut. I needed a spare. Fiamma themselves were not much help. Eventually it was Timpsons that provided the spare. However they could not cut it but had to send it away. £9 I think.

We fitted them on one our motorhomes, then found a YouTube clip of somebody opening them with a biro.  :Eeek: Bob

Sounds to me like the previous owner fitted three locks all with different cylinders that each came with two keys, then had two of the cylinders re-keyed alike so that all three locks use the same key. They would have been left with two keys that operate all three locks and four keys that don't operate any of them.

Why do you think you need six keys? Did the van come with six ignition keys?

Any keys over and above what you actually need are just a security risk/worry IMO.

OK. There was no previous owner. The dealer rented out the vehicle from new and then I bought it. Nobody would have fitted any other replacement locks. It's quite easy that the people who rented the vehicles may have lost them but then they would have had their rental deposit to pay for the loss.

The door safe locks kits come in sets of three with six matching keys. This is what the dealer would have fitted to the vehicle when it was first put on the road. Six keys were originally with the vehicle as far as I understand.

I suspect you have been given all the keys. It is what are called a suit of locks. You normally get 2 that are unique to each lock, as is usual, and a further 2 that are suited so that they fit all three of the locks.
