im a not so newbie
Hi all

I’m looking for suggestions on what ferry and time to travel to Eire.

Probably late May to early June for a couple of weeks.

Being a tight fit cheapest will do.
There’s two of us and the small dog.

7m x 3m Moho

TiA ?

Ohh and we’re in Cheltenham so Liverpool or Wales on this side of the water presumably is best ?

In case others look then
Is very good value but no dogs

in your case we found it depends what time of day and what you wanted in the package
Use their websites to get an idea but we have then phoned up and got a better price

Stena line nearly always have a discount code ,, bit like DFS :) We went out thru Holyhead and back thru Fishguard

Cheapest is the shortest
Stranraer to Belfast
However it involves the most driving.

Longest is the most expensive
It also involves the least driving

It's a balance between time and money !

Thanks for the replies

Not to bothered about a long drive but Scotland maybe a bit too far ?

I've done birkenhead to belfast. I've left dog in mh. Found weekend day ferry with stenna about £90 each way with 8m mh.
Always online discount somewhere.
Book early and you'll get a good price.

Just had a look on here and for some reason it doesn’t seem to give a lot of options.

Also said all sailings are fully booked.
Maybe it’s me ?

What time of year was that as all the ones I’ve looked at seem to be around the 150ew mark

Thanks

Kens right in so much as I am a frequent traveller , but 95% of my travel is via cairnryan with stena .. Not cheap but convenient for me and by always using stena I accumulate points which means I currently get about two free trips a year..

You say you want to travel to the south in your original post.. So my choice would be Holyhead to Dublin.. That's not a bad crossing and ive used it a few times..
From the reading ive done it would seem that sea truck are most probably the cheapest operator but IMO at the expense of a longer crossing time less flexibility on sailing times....
When you go hope you have a great time..
Andy.

We did Cairnryan to Belfast as from the NE it was the shortest drive. Despite it being possible to use Tesco vouchers we got an even better deal through Caravan Club.

Hi

Thanks for the reply.
We’re not fixed on dates or ports so sailing to NI and driving down wouldn’t be an issue.

Prefer to not go in School hols hence the dates.

Will continue to search ?

I’ll have a look at the C C site

If you go Stena via Cairnryan you could spend a day or two in the South West of Scotland, it's really very nice here.

Liverpool -Dublin one way £120, day crossing with cabin including excellent breakfast and afternoon meal last September through CMC, 6m van.

I bet it’s cheaper to fly and use a hotel etc. As said it’s a very expensive stretch of water.

Your dates will probably fit but remember Scottish school holidays start late June through to early \ mid August.

I’ve just tried and it worked for me but wow the prices have gone up since I last went.
you got 2 meals a cabin with en-suite shower, as much tea and coffee or juices

Cheapest crossings, certainly on Irish Ferries, seem to be midweek, Tuesday, possibly Wednesday. And best rates for the antisocial overnight crossings at stupid o'clock in the morning, when you'll probably be thinking of some sort of cabin. You'll pay through the nose, and even worse if you try the speedy rather than standard ferry.

Tesco type vouchers will only work out to be cost effective if you really have a shed load of them as they operate against standard pricing. Even a customer without any special offer can get a small discount as standard, so if you only have say a tenner of voucher, doubled up, it will cost more than a general normal online fare.

Liverpool to Belfast return. Departing 10.30am sunday 31st may returns sunday 10.30am 2weeks later £156 each way stenna. With discount code will be cheaper.
I leave my dog in mh with food and water.

I take it that it’s not just me that thinks it’s a bit expensive then.

I’m thinking might leave it till I can spend a month or so in Eire.

That would make me feel it was better value ?

Not just you, I have been a number of times for usually 6 days, travelling solo, to visit archaeological sites, never crossed Holyhead Dublin return for less than £380 with cabin, fly drive cheaper, however, can't carry my equipment nor have the flexibility.
