Said farewell today. Have been to most European moto gp on it, Nord Cap in 2009. Sadly as I have got older its weight has become an issue especially when two up with the wife.
For a number of years we have done the European trips with a Suzuki Burgman 200 behind the van on a trailer. However, after a lot of discussion we decided to let it go.
The problem the scooter does not do it for us, as it is not a "proper" motorcycle. The solution has been found in a new Triumph Trident 660, which we have ordered for delivery next year (I dont do motorcycling in the winter any more). The new bike being nearly a hundredweight lighter.

Lovely looking bike. I’m also just starting to think about going a little lighter. My Super Tenere weighs 260 ish kg.
I do fancy a Triumph next. The Tiger 900 GT Pro.
We can’t let getting older stop us can we.

Exactly, motorcycling has been a way of life for me since I got my first Triumph at 16 (tiger cub). Have never been without a Triumph since then except for six months when I owned a BSA.

I don’t know. 1050cc down to 660 cc is quite a drop.
We have test ridden the 660 two up and I can't deny the reduction in power from 130hp to 80hp is noticeable, but for what we want to do with a motorcycle the Trident will fit the the bill.

But its still a sports bike, did you not consider the lighter adventure type bike? Great riding position and a good view of the road. Ive just accepted defeat and sold my last motorcycle a Honda NC 750 DCT, but I am two months short of 76.

I keep looking. Triumph do have a great selection of bikes at the moment. One of my brothers has the Tiger 1200. When it went in for the first service they gave him the 900 for the day and he came to show me. Much lighter than mine, about 50kg if I remember. That’s a big weight loss. My S10 makes about 100hp I think the Tiger 900 isn’t a long way shy of that and at 50kg lighter will not be very noticeable. Perhaps a test ride is in order.

you are right to change though. you meed to be able to handle it to ba safe as you know.

Im single riding mine and its 310kg and getting awks esp on slow manouvers

Is difficult as we all get older ! We went from a Pan European to a Deauville . Hired Pan Europeans twice for a month each time in New Zealand . Amazing apart from the speed limits lol Isn’t too bad but as you say a scooter doesn’t do it lol Enjoy

I have been thinking seriously of down weighting.
I wouldn't have the Goldwing i have now if it didn't have a reverse.
So a lighweight (by comparison) DCT would surfice my needs now.
Like a NC 750 for eg.

I am the same down from a BMW GT1300 and a Honda 1200 Cross tourer and now got the NC750 and the Yam T Max and both are brilliant for what they are, fast enough to keep up with the traffic and the T Max is a revelation, twin discs upside down forks, ladder chassis rear disc and monoshock handles like its on rails! MCN's John Nutting raves about them too.

I've had bikes for exactly 60 years and still ride two 1950's Brit bikes and a modern Jap machine. Fifteen years ago and unbeknown to me my 35 yrs old son bought a Vespa for commuting into Brighton where car parking near his office was £18 a day (it's £25 a day now). It was his first powered two-wheeler so he asked me to 'just' ride it home from the seller in Portsmouth - about 50 miles (kids eh?). I'd had a Lambretta for a couple of years back in the early 60's but had forgotten how 'orrible it feels to 'ride' without a tank to grip between the knees. I felt scarily insecure and once back I couldn't get off it quick enough.

Pete and I used to see a Deauville when we had the Africa Twin - it was a gorgeous very deep maroon colour, not unlike the old Ford Imperial Maroon, and I loved it - but only 600cc and he wanted summat with more oomph - and I can't ride one at all - so he opted for the 1200 Trophy but let me choose Sunset Red!

Had a T-Max 530 in Spain for a couple of years. Brill scoot.

Aged 73, my latest bike is a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650cc.

A great retro bike with all the performance that I want. Great for riding and appreciating the scenery rather than head and knee down.

It is a fact that reaction times suffer as we age, but that doesn’t lessen the enjoyment. Simply a different experience.

Scooter, Sports, touring, retro, adventure or even Harley, there is something for everyone, somewhere.

You pays your money and takes your choice. None of them are wrong.

I can have almost as much fun on Cindy’s Vespa GTS 300 as I can on my Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE, but that said, I would use them for different purposes.

Out on my bike today. Had a short run to Chester and around. Lovely day for it. Just cruising, in no hurry, radio 2 on listening to Mr Bruce, heaven.
