So after a 3 month build up since putting down deposit and several years consideration of what to get we had our hand over today!

All went really well apart from tv circuit not working on demo and needing rewired. Then our attempt to go and fill up with gas which should have taken 30 mins ended up with a 2 hour drive round in circles because of road closures and crazy traffic. Had to give up as we were starving and needed to do a shop and get to the campsite. But managed to fill up with diesel, successful navigation of unknown tescos and made it to our pitch down some pretty narrow, dark and pot holed lanes. These may seem incredibly mundane to most on here but having never driven a vehicle this size I'm chuffed!

Now hooked up, toasty warm, had a Chinese delivered and the dog is fast asleep too so i think she will be very happy with her new territory.

Great feeling getting your first trip out of the way - welcome and enjoy

Brilliant, took your time!! Sounds like you had to take several deeeep breaths but now relaxed. Time to enjoy..

Neither have we Stephen
Hope you have many happy years and adventures in your new van. Enjoy !

Excellent. Well done and great story. Even the basics like fuelling feel daunting first time. At least it sounds like you’ve got the heating sorted which is just as well looking at the ice on my sky lights.

Dethleffs are great vans. I have a 2006 Globebus. Really pleased with it. Happy Adventures.

Congratulations and a great start. Now be old and spread your wings. The UK is fine in the summer but you really need to get into Europe (and beyond) to enjoy the best of winter in a motorhome. (even better in the summer). You will get loads of help and advice on here as you build up your knowledge and confidence. Enjoy and safe travels

Uk till end of May then Europe, then morroco all being well ?

1st wild camp completed. Cooked dinner now that we have gas, good night's sleep and dead quiet spot. Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for breakie and now going to watch mates racing cx bikes round a muddy field. I could get used to this!

You sound quite independent and are probably going to do a lot of wilding, or at least off-grid on Aires etc.

I am posting some suggestions for your long trip now, because threads get lost in history.

You have not said what equipment you have on the MH - so many of my suggestions may be fitted already, or on your wish list.

If I were going on that trip in the Spring I would want to have:-

Batteries - 2/3 - probably got 2 already

Charging
----Solar panels of 200w plus with MPPT controller
........Battery-to-battery charger(Sterling or Victronic) - to ensure batteries are full after even short drive

Gas - LPG refillables, Gaslow/Gasit/Alugas tanks or even a 80-100lt underslung tank.

Extra 1/2 cassettes + folding shovel ;) ;)

We have got most of that for our 10 week trips but would need to supplement for longer.

We also take 3 setsof bed covers/sheets

Of course you need to get paperwork sorted and Apps for LPG stations and laundries etc., plus park4night/campercontact/searchforsites etc.

You have plenty of time to sort out what you want/need - the planning can be quite exciting.

Keep enjoying.

Thanks so much for the tips. Is that 10 weeks wilding you're doing? Here's where we're at now: We have 2 batteries 110ah, not sure if b2b or not, 2x11kg gaslow, 150w solar not sure what controller but will take another 100w, 2 sets of sheets will do us as only change every 3 weeksish! Have lpg and park4night app. That's where we got our great spot last night.

It sounds as though you are well kitted out already.

Our 10 weeks are usually 2 x 5 and parked up while we fly back, but the MH is away from base for 10 weeks.

It is not all wilding as we use Aires and Steellplatz also, but we never are on EHU as we do not need it, with B2B. One clue re whether you have B2B is that there will be thin wire going to leisure batteries which just feeds a sensor for controlling the charge rate and for temperature. I think ours for our Sterling B2B is red. But since MH is new you would have had to order it as an extra. Aftermarket fit is not difficult once a wiring run has been found. Cheaper if you can do it yourselves - Sterling' instructions are easy to follow.

Hope you invited said mates in for a shower when they had finished ?
