Hi
Am I the only one to have noticed the big (and I mean BIG) rise in Eurotunnel pricing. In May of 2020 we were booked at a return cost of £218 for travel both ways on a Sunday. Booking like for like now is coming in at £412. Not far short of a 100% increase. I know that Eurotunnel will have faced increased operating costs but does that really warrant an increase of this magnitude.

I just looked and it showed £132 for mid May, helps if you can be flexible with dates and time
But luckily I’m a frequent traveller partner so get it a lot cheaper, annoying that the pet price has gone up to £22 though

Like most hotels and airlines, they use 'dynamic pricing'.
The more people that look for certain dates, the higher the price goes.

Did you get a refund for the 2020 crossing ? 🤔

I thought they only offered alternative crossings

But the pricing is market forces, if people are paying why not charge it, good business sense 🤔👍 are the ferries up in price as well

I had the same experience as I mentioned in another post on here. Not only had the prices increased but in my case the prices increased again when I went back to re-check the following day. They have pretty much doubled since our last trip in Sept/Oct (and we try and use out of hours crossing times) In the end I went with DFDS taking advantage of their over 60's discount

It said it was £22 per pet when I looked but when I went to actually book as a FT it was only £18 per pet.

I have been as flexible as I am able. We are meeting some friends in Rennes and that is dictating dates. I have a credit for the unused booking but that has to be used by the beginning of May, the booking however can be anytime after that.

I would look again at ferries but it was my wifes stomach problems that prompted us to use the tunnel. No going back I'm afraid.

It really hasn't changed a lot. Eurotunnel prices have always increased the closer you get to departure date.
Fl;exibility is the key and if you can travel very early or late or midweek it often makes a significant difference. Of course if you need definite times/dates then your choices are limited.

Correct me if I am wrong but the cookies when you first looked at prices affect the dynamic pricing system, so if you go back they will raise the price. Clear all your cookies first would help. My experience a while ago with BF was even worse.

Alternatively use a different browser to the original which won't have the cookies on.

Thanks, I will see in a couple of days when I book my ft

A bit like air B & B then.

Exactly like AirBnB ! They use 'Dynamic Pricing' automated pricing software as well.

The advantage/disadvantage of a site using Dynamic Pricing is you can get silly costs for things. My sister used to deliberately wait for certain flights to drop at 2am on a Tuesday, and then get flights across Europe for under £50

The downside has been we have a two up/two down holiday cottage, at high season it typically rents out at around £500 PW.
A few days ago, because the rental company use Dynamic Pricing, it was at £1,700 PW for early June, which is not even high season. No one in their right mind would even pay half that amount, so it actually puts people off and we have probably lost a real booking for that period.

The only way to get around it, is to check the prices, find out what you want, and then leave it until 2am on a Tuesday and then just dive and and book, without double checking, as that will drive up the price.

I would agree the prices have really gone up in the last six months especially if you do not book months and months ahead, it is crazy that it is cheaper in later July during school holidays than a random week in February.

I did a recent search for the cheapest price they showed on the website and the only time it was available was for the very last week of availability which was mid september.

We have just booked a crossing Sunday18th September 2022 - returning Sunday 23 Oct for £243 maybe a 10% increase

jobla
We have booked a return trip in September. Cost for motorhome and trailer is £402.

Higher than previously but, as towing a trailer almost doubles the price, it makes your cost look high.

Thank goodness for Tesco vouchers.;)

It is half term at the moment and there are a lot of people heading off skiing at the last minute as all the testing rules change.
