My European breakdown covers says they’re not allowed to come onto motorways in Spain, can anyone tell me the protocol for motorway breakdowns

Only authorised vehicles allowed to recover on motorways..Ring on SOS phone and they will tow you off to a place your own Breakdown can sort you out.BUSBY.

This happened to us last year when a tyre literally exploded on the A8 in South of France. Unable to move moho onto the hard shoulder as the tyre tread had wrapped itself round something. 50 m back to emergency phone and the breakdown lorry got to our van before I did!! He was unable to winch the van onto his lorry so within 2 minutes a Highways truck with large flashing arrow was there to divert oncoming traffic (NB. WARNING TRIANGLES NOT ALLOWED ON FRENCH MOTORWAYS!) and after a huge struggle the wheel was changed and we were escorted along the hard shoulder to the next exit. Brilliant service from a very sympathetic engineer.

I was driving towards Malaga on the A7 the other week I noticed there were no SOS phones apart from in the tunnels I guess you have to phone 112

Yes there was an article some years back about how now everyone had a mobile phone they were not going to be installing new SOS phones & as others came to end of life/problems they would be removed.
