EU regs (food)

Hi.
It happened before about 12-15 years ago as you drove out of the docks, there were 45 gall. drums and as you went by you were ...supposed to ?... drop any sandwiches etc. into them from your cab as you went by. I think it was something to do with foot and mouth,swine/chicken flue at the time .
Think about the european drivers coming over here. Most are away for a month at a time and live out of a "Cooler " type box on the trailer, so topping up in the UK.......Its bad enough trying to park up in a reasonably sized m/home,let alone a humungeous Artic unit. ( I did have a DAF 85 unit that would go under the barrier at Leclerc superstore Bologne.....SShhhhhh.)

Jesus, yet another thread on the same subject, we could be heading for a record.

There are already two threads running. One started yesterday and one earlier today. ;)
Trouble is if they drop off the first page of the threads list others may not know there are others ... it doesn't help when the titles aren't clear about what they are talking about either, at least this one clearly stated it's about EU regs (food).

Hide your sandwiches?

Another thread for many to discuss how they intend the break the new rules!

I guess that's it.
A case of déjà-vu all over again, but I suppose they contribute to sorting out the crème de la menthe from the chaff, Minxy.

Or the clotted cream ... with the emphasis on 'clot'!

Re the sandwiches, the Dutch government website is perfectly clear about the import of certain foods for personal use after Brexit.

Agree with it or not, that's their law.

Maybe admin could delete repeats of the same thing and keep the 1st post on a topic?

Hmm, that would take a lot of reading and interpretation as to whether it's the same topic as many threads drift off the subject .
I see that unsurprisingly the 'Similar threads' entries (bottom of the screen) algorithm hasn't picked up any repetition.

I think it would be easy with the obvious ones like these food import threads. It's certainly done on other forums I'm on and because repeat threads get closed most people remember to check before posting to see if it's been done already. Also helpful members will post up on a repeat thread and direct the poster to the original thread.

Do hope the same rules are applied to European drivers, both lorry and motorhome, coming here. Didn’t the EU make a big thing about having a level playing field?

Easy enough for motorhomes to go to a supermarket when they arrive in the EU, not so easy for an artic.

Surely the level playing field was the ability to make our own rules. If we don't want to stop travellers brining in food that's our decision. Both ways don't have to be the same.

I think you will find it was the EU that were insisting on the level playing field

Von der Leyen underlines importance of level playing field

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says "We want a level playing field. We want a level playing field not only at the start, but also over time."

It is level though, they make their rules we make ours. No problem with that.

I think this was with reference to trading with the EU not whether you can take a ham sandwich between the countries. The UK has the absolute right to ban ham sandwiches should they so wish as you have taken back control so best petition the government .

Part of me thinks that would be petty and part thinks yes, tit for tat. In reality, I will probably just stop buying anything produced in the EU, stop visiting and spend my money in the UK.

But that’s not quite true is it? If we change our rules and they don’t like it they can impose tariffs. Presumably the U.K. can do the same.
