Lots of motorhomes/ campervans make their way to the remote little gem of Elgol when visiting Skye.
The local Community Development Council is trying to raise funds to build new toilets and incorporate a black waste disposal point for "us". Will you help???
Some of the money raised so far is local, some 'general' tourists, some motorhomers.
As I post this, after just one day they have raised £1266 of the required £5000 - can we get them to at least £1300 by the end of today? - better still, £1500?

Go on - you know you want to!

(sorry, you'll need to scroll down their f/b page as I can't link direct to the 'spend a penny' section)

Happy to help out Wendy.. a lovely spot which I hope to return to one day..
I've not actually visited by land..but on a trip to skye we set off from Tarskavaig and headed to Loch coruisk at the foot of the black Culin.. we passed Elgol on route..
Good luck with the fundraising..
Andy..

£1524 woo-hoo! they've done well in just 2 days!
54 days to get the total up to £5000 - anybody know anywhere else to share this?

Plenty of Facebook groups but going by a lot of the posts they want everything for nothing. 🥴

Yes I find the attitude of some to be really disappointing.

really hope it works and hope to get a chance to pay to use 👍
I don't know whether they'll put a usage charge on the CDP,. as they won't want to put 'those' people off using it - the new one at Gairloch doesn't, though a lot of people are going into the harbourmaster's office and the store and insisting on giving a donation.

Well that's my last premium bond win spent, I may even visit one day! :giggle:

Thanks Rob, hope you do, would be nice to catch up... we're about halfway from KL to Toftir!

Woo-hoo - £2056 by this morning! Thank you all for your contributions, this teeny little community needs and deserves some protection from ... well ... 'us' (far too many visitors for such a small place but the drive there is oh so beautiful!)

Please spread the word wherever you can and anybody new looking in, I still have my begging-bowl out for Elgol!

Just stunning place looking forward to a trip, happy to pay forward CWH PayPal not responding just ATM but will try again later. Brilliant idea but think donation request on site a good idea to fund ongoing costs.

I agree Jan.
I don't know what their plans are. Nothing to do with me really, I'm just sharing as it's local-ish (about 1h30 or more, out of season) and it seems to me that these things need a little bit of promotion and a helping hand sometimes to get where they need to be.

Ha! I was down to Broadford for my Tesco Click-&-Collect yesterday evening (no slots to be had in Portree!)
There's a lovely little overnight spot I've used and yes, as you say, fabulous views. Hope you make it next year

When did Tesco open in Broadford or Portree?
