Electric hotplate query

We want to purchase a small hotplate to cook on or to boil some water as backup to the existing gas cooker on our As Kingham. We have our eyes on a 1500w hotplate and would like to know if this can be run on hookup?

If we are on EHU we us a 3100 twin induction hob with no problems as long as I turn the the heating and water heater off.
That is on a 16 amp EHU but a lot of sites are not that generous.

Sorry John, I miss read your post. I see now you were talking about the EHU power and not the consumer item.
Note to self, pay more attention.

1500watts is 6. 52 amps which isn't going to work on a 6 amp supply but will work on 10 and 16 amp supply so

If you buy a 1,000 watt one instead, you'll be fine on a 6 amp hookup, providing you're not boiling the electric kettle at the same time...

We've got 2 stand alone hobs, and one is only 500 watts, which is a bit slow, but we can use it anywhere. The other is 1,500 watts, I think, so have to be very careful where we use it, especially on the continent.

I'd stick to 1000w max as that will allow you to use it on more lower amperage sites and also not have to worry about turning off any other kit to do so, however, if you are on sites where you're having to pay for electric why not consider a suitcase gas stove instead - they are very good, with a very adjustable low to high output, canisters are cheap and can be got anywhere, even in Europe, plus you can take it with you to the beach etc if you want. We have one and wouldn't be without it.

Yep, we also carry the small 'suitcase' gas portable, which we often use for cooking outside the van - especially fish!

I am not sure induction hobs are variable power, although they have different heat settings I think it uses full power to get to that temperature.
Someone may be along soon who knows what they are talking about.

I seem to remember the instruction book with mine told me how much power each setting used. It’s an induction hob from Aldi. Will have a look tomorrow as seem to recall a handy table but put instructions somewhere safe so will need to find them.

i use ours in france on 6amp hook up no problem, with other electrical items running as well. variable power from 400 to 2000
