Electric Frying Pan / Skillet

If I am given incorrect instructions... what can you expect?

Pan was delivered yesterday .. how fast was that.. less than 24hrs from pressing Buy Now

First impressions..

It looks good, polished s/s , well made and has heat resistant handles.. and a good quality glass lid

Decided to try it with a simple chicken a rice dish.. just to see how if it cooked evenly and would simmer.

Basmati Rice , I cup
Chicken breast cut into bite size pieces and seasoned. ,
Red Pepper diced
Med Onion
3 cloves of Garlic
Frozen Peas and Corn , half a cup of each
600ml Chicken Stock..
Seasoning, black pepper and a pinch of salt.
Olive oil

It heated up the oil quickly and I cooked the chicken, then added the the veg and cooked until soft, then added the stock

Finally the rice and set it to simmer until all liquid absorbed..

Controlling the cooking was a bit difficult.. being a lightweight pan it didn't hold the heat as well as my cast iron paella pan.

one minute boiling it's head off, then switching off and cooling until it had almost stopped cooking.. but I persevered and in about 12 minutes simmering was ready to eat.

It cooked evenly, no hot spots..

Cleaning it was a breeze.. wipe over with paper towel..

Verdict
Pros.
For the van it will be excellent.. will save using gas , and less cleaning up and will be very versatile.. fry ups, paella, curry, spaghetti bolognese , tomato pasta etc and easy to clean makes it a winner.

Cons
The base is too light .. making it difficult to get a controlled cooking temperature.
but it's a trade off.. cast iron is a bit heavy for taking in the van

For home.. no, I will stick with my cast iron skillets and paella pan..

That's fine if you have EHU but we very rarely do. We use gas for most things.

Nearly all sites now have EHU, including most CLs which we generally use.. so it will get plenty of use.. why pay for electric and use gas

a lot of new motorhomes now have an electric plate in the hob

I’ve just ordered one too.....will use it on my next trip (to Broadway C&MC site)......
 
That's fine if you have EHU but we very rarely do. We use gas for most things.
I think gas is easier to control, also does not require heavy pans.
I use gas to get the fridge cool at home because it's cheaper than electric.
If mains electric was charged for, I think most would prefer gas.

If there is a mains supply it is included in the pitch price OR metered.. which is becoming more popular.. but not many (in UK) at present

I think gas is easier to control, also does not require heavy pans.

Ease of control wasn't one of the factors in choosing an electric skillet

I use gas to get the fridge cool at home because it's cheaper than electric.

I also use propane at home for cooking (no mains gas) as it's cheaper than electric.. but I didn't buy the skillet for home use.
I use cast iron skillets and copper pans in the home.
 
Bought this gas stove the other day. £20 with 8 gas cartridges. We go to Spain a lot where electricity is metered so it makes sense for us.



Saw them in Benidorm but they wanted €50 without any gas cartridges :eek:
