Hi all

We are in our new motorhome for first time tonight. Lights are all working correctly and USB socket is fine for recharging phone. However, the big problem is that the sockets dont work and and we are gasping for a first night cuppa!

Is there some switch that we are missing out, or is there some other screamingly obvious solution? Cant use electric hook up as we are in a car park. The leisure battery is brand new and working.

Help! Many thanks, Glenowen.

Hi,

the mains sockets will only work when you are on hook-up. The battery in the van can only supply low voltage electricity for lights/pump/USB charger, etc. To get a cup of tea without hook up you will need to use a gas kettle or saucepan - similarly you will need to set the fridge to the gas setting if you are using it.

cheers,

Robin

Are you on electric hook up? If you’re not, the 230v sockets that power a kettle will not work. If you have gas, you’ll need to boil a kettle or skillet using that.
Edit: rwg beat me to it!

Thank you very much, Robin and Ingwe, for your very quick replies! What you say makes sense and we have learned a valuable lesson. Pity it didnt explain that in the instruction booklet.

All's well that ends well - we have found a McDonalds very close to Newhaven ferry port and are tucking into a late night hot chocolate and hot apple pie!

Many thanks again - we are MH Fun newbies and are very impressed!

Great you got it sorted and are having late night hot chocolate and apple pie! Sounds yummy! This is a great forum and never hesitate to ask anything no matter how simple or daft it may seem. Almost everything relating to motorhomes has been asked before on here and there is a vast fund of knowledge offered freely and helpfully.

Glad your being fed and watered.
You need to carry a low wattage leccy kettle not the thermo nuclear 300 kw device like the one you have at home, ours is 900 watts and takes four days to boil but doesn’t trip the fuse :giggler: :giggler: and a small gas hob kettle for when your not on ehu.
Oh and did you remember to pack tea, coffee, milk and a corkscrew?

We had a Majestic 115 for 7 years, traded in last week for a campervan, so if you need any future info I will try to help.
We used a small ‘travel’ kettle for on hook-up and a collapsible one for the gas hob when we weren’t.
