I'm looking for a power monitor for the EHU.. basically a panel mounted digital ampmeter with a range 0 - 16 amps.. or wattmeter.

I know Maplin sell 13A plug in types but has anyone seen a panel mounted version ?

Something here meet your need?

Hi Keith

Thanks, I searched there but can't see anything to monitor the EHU amps..

AFAIK Zig units only monitor the 12v side of life..

Hi Jim
There may be someting here for you Link Removed

All of the electrical controll systems in my van are manufactured by blue sea and so dont let the feeling that their all about boats bother you.

PN 8247 looks just the job, I'm familiar with Bluesea products, but I'm struggling to find a UK retailer, they only list wholesalers, ..but I'll keep looking

Hi Bryan

Not wide off the mark, thanks, ideal size,
but it needs a CT (current transformer), not sold by the seller.
Someone somehere will sell both.. just need to keep lookiing..

As an aside, you would think this would be a popular thing to have fitted in a motorhome, or as a retrofit, I know the yanks fit them now..

Yip.better still , needs a shunt, A 20A 75mV Shunt must be used for the meter to read/measure current... i'll try and contact him about supplying both

Cheers

Jim

The 20 amp one I linked to needs a

'20A 75mV Shunt must be used for the meter to read/measure current.'

Is that any easier to come by or is that an expensive hard to get extra too?

just remember
IMPORTANT: A 20A 75mV Shunt must be used for the meter to read/measure current.
a shunt or transformer is needed with these meters which costs more than the meter itself.

but, as usual, Jim.......they're out of stock.
give 'em a ring and ask when they will be back in stock.

i ordered an 'out of stock' solar panel from them. after 3 weeks i rang them......"they will be back in stock in 11 weeks Sir"
needless to say i cancelled the order.

Sorry Jim, thought you wanted amps...the kind of unit you mention is similar to this : Link Removed which I use at home :thumb:

BTW, neither unit is true panle mount but I'm guessing that you'll mod it to be so

Argos now stock a remote wireless energy monitor that displays kwh .. this is perfect for a motorhome to monitor the EHU load

Hi Pete

To show photos from a web site:

with the mouse pointer over the image,
right click,
then left click on 'copy image location'

To insert in your post,

in the post toolbar click on the image button (left of the quote button ) and paste the url of the copied image ..

Power Monitor update

Hi

The monitor arrived and its fitted and working, shows the Real-time consumption and can be programmed to give audible alarm when it exceeds a preset limit.

Simple to fit, the Clamp just goes round the positive Incommer to the Meter and with batteries inserted a press of the button and the sender "finds" the Recever and "bingo".

Some of the results (about the house) are "illuminating" Viz:-

Tumble dryer 3+KW/hr:cry: Oven 2.5KW/Hr:Tongue1:

Biggest reading was 18.8 KW/Hr during Sunday Lunchtime, when the House was full of "visitors" for lunch, and SWMBO was doing a batch of washing as well!!!

R-V (with passive heating on) 3.5KW:cry::cry::cry: Time to go to Spain!!!

To fit it to the R-V I will have to isolate the Positive Incomer, you cannot just clip it round the EHU cable, it distorts the reading.

So far well worth the £30.

Pete

Thanks for the report Pete... maybe should call it the 'worry' meter
