I’m a newbie
Hi you helpful bunch.
does anyone use e bikes with a 11kg cockapoo or simila. If so how does it work for you.
thanks karen.

I use a doggyhut trailer, he goes in if were on a road or trots along side if on a cycle trail.
He not overly keen when he sees I want him to go in, but doesn`t complain once he`s in.
I used to use it with a non ebike which was hard work on hills, I much prefer the ebike (y)

Not an e bike but can imagine its the same connection to the back axle. 25kg Cockapoo gives you a wee workout..

My cockapoo really doesn’t like being on the bike. She is 10kg so the only basket I could find, to take that weight, was one that went on the back of the bike, I couldn’t see her but she would be shaking when I took her out!
I now have https://buddyrider.co/ and although it was expensive I feel better as I can see her and know she’s ok.

Did she take to it. That’s what I would like to get but expensive if she hates it

😉 You need a smaller dog Izzy is 7kg, they do say these baskets take 10kg but it's debatable. 😁
Diabalo Dane has one for a Cairn terrier, I think Charlie is probably maximum for one. 😎 Bob.

We had a trailer for our dog. She absolutely hated it! She would howl and try to escape, she actually got out once. Luckily we had her lead secured but after that we ditched the idea.

I know I can’t believe I paid that much! It had got to the stage where I couldn’t use my bike because of her. She is better in this than everything else I’ve tried, she likes being close to me. The other benefits are that it detaches in a couple of seconds and it is small to store when not on the bike. My bike feels very stable and safe when riding.
The only downside other than the cost is that I feel it pushes my knees out a little bit when cycling but looking at the reviews nobody else has mentioned this.
Im happy I’ve bought it.

Our 5 month old pup is 10.8kg - it’s some weight!

You’ll want to get her weight as low as possible on the bike to prevent stability issues so trailer is ideal.

The topic of doggy weights and payload deserves its own thread :reel:

We use a basket/carrier that lifts off and can be used to carry the dog around also. It was from Aldi. A holding device is fastened over the handle bars and the carrier just slots into it and is secured with a safety wire. It has a pull cord cover that the head pokes through. Is waterproof. Our dog prefers it than walking, she is 4kgs and 13yrs old. So you can see the dog in the carrier whilst your cycling. The weight is over the front wheel and really is not noticeable whilst riding. I have a 4kg toy poodle and want something that fits on the front of my e-bike. Any suggestions?
Check amazon. They have lots of different styles of bike baskets specifically for dogs.

I have one of these for Archie. He’s 10kg, and likes the air (on some bits more than others, it’s most impolite!)

It can make the bike hard to balance, because there’s a lot of weight, but I can’t have a trailer because I pull my daughter along on an axle tandem on roads or longer journeys.

The battery and motor seem to cope fine with the train. It is heavier going than without them, but that’s to be expected, and I can do rides that neither of them could cope with with less effort than a manual bike for myself alone.

I have ordered one, I have gone for a pannier version as the front mounted ones looked to be too much of a problem with all the cables on an e-bike. Got it from Zooplus as Amazon out of stock.

Could you borrow a trailer to try for your dog?

Funny thing is, when we had a boat, we had an inflatable dinghy and our dog absolutely loved it; she would jump in before it was even properly inflated. Once when it was tied up behind the boat, we couldn't find her. We then saw her happily sitting in the dinghy. When we went out in it, she would stand right at the front with her paws over the edge with her ears blowing in the wind. She even went overboard once but that didn't put her off.

But put her in the trailer and immediate howling commenced.

I’m going to look in to hiring and see if they have this option also.

We have springers attached to our bikes, so the dogs are attached to the bikes and run alongside. They are Dalmatians and weigh around 31kg, and being carriage dogs are good endurance dogs and love a good run and never get tired lol. However, when they get old, i think i would buy one of those trailer things for the dogs.
