Is the DVLA back to work? sent my license for renewal 16th.August 2021 they signed for it on the 18Th.August Ihave not recived it back yet and it runs out on 10th. October will i still be able to drive if it does not come back by then? I have tried every phone number i can find for them and got nowhere.

Under Section 88 rules you are able to continue to drive while the DVLA are processing your licence.
However, that only applies in the U.K. and only if you have not been advised not to drive by a doctor.

To answer your first question, the DVLA haven’t worked in the sense that most of us understand work for years.
Complete basket case that needs major upheaval to sort out.

Lots on here particularly C1 renewal. Standard renewals on line are supposed to be ok. Sent my C1 renewal 14th June and had an email acknowledgement of receipt 14th July, approximately 12 weeks wait now. Did get through to medical department who advised OK to carry on driving as long as D4 was OK. Not a lot of use if you wish to travel abroad, hire a car or have a courtesy car.

Took 16 weeks to get mine back dvla are useless

DVLA don't do the signing for, it is the local sorting office who sign / acknowledge, then they all get put into a sack together and delivered to DVLA
Now into month 8 since starting the process.
Given up chasing, just letting things take their own course now
