I sent my log book to the dvla about a month ago to have the weights changed but have not heard anything back yet , does anyone know roughly how long these thing take . I know the dvla get a bit of stick but I have found them usually to be ok and quite prompt but maybe not in this case . Only getting a bit twitchy now as we are again to France in a few weeks time and may have to go without the log book which raises another question is it a big deal if we don’t have the log book with us in the unlikely event of getting stopped in France?

I am doing exactly the same thing, and was advised it could take 5 weeks

Never ever been asked for a log book in 40 years including overstayed vehicles and a vehicle not owned or insured by me.

Travelled to Spain and back in a van this year with no V5

I keep a photo of my V5s on my phone - and passport - quicker to get any info from phone than looking for docs

Dunno about the french but the German and Austrian politzei get a bit stroppy if you don’t have your V5??

Originals not copies are required I believe, but if not stopped no problem

I sent ours in on 22June and it arrived back on Friday. I had phoned them to check and they told me that they have a lot of new registrations at this time of year. We are in France with no log book and himself had no licence as it was a long time coming back after his C1 renewal.

DVLA quoting “20 working days”
Not sure how many weeks that is in their parallel universe ?

I uprated my last van it took DVLA 3 weeks to send the new V5 and when I checked it they had changed the revenue weight but not the Max permissible mass. Only took them 4 months to get that right.

Had to chase ours earlier this year, and several times thereafter as with Lenny above they only changed the revenue weight after upgrade.

Howard, they are currently working to a 6-week turnaround. Our weight change took 45-days from the date of dispatch to return but when it arrived on the doorstep the info was incorrect. It took DVLA a further 15-days to send me the corrected V5 so 60-days in total.

Good luck,

Andrew

Probably being a bit thick here Lenny (Sunday morning hangover ) but why would the miro change on my van when I have just increased the gross weight ?

P.S. They changed my revenue weight (Y) to 4,500kg but forgot to change the maximum permissible mass (F1).

It seems a common mistake from what I gather.

We got ours back a couple of weeks ago and it took 3 weeks.

I think I'll get the worry beads out.
I forgot to photograph my log book before I returned it for the weight upgrade

Just looked at my copy of my log book it does not have the f1 section field filled in ,is that not right and been liked that from new . Thought I knew about these weight things but I guess I don’t :)

My typo should have said Max permissible mass (edited) which is the Gross weight, line F.1 on V5.

Still be overloaded?????

Same mistake as made on mine earlier this year. Only took 4 months to sort.

Wonder how many would still go if the penalty for non production of a V5 was 100% vehicle impounding.... No exceptions?

Only when I come to Yorkshire with proper beer so I don’t have to drink that blooming dreadful John smiths . By the way we are over there (York) tomorrow for 3 nights ?

If that was the definite penalty then no I don’t think many would go ,a fine then yes I would still go ?

Howard,
I believe there is now a YBP (Yorkshire Border Patrol ) checkpoint now on the A59 between Clitheroe and Skipton to check for imported beer, so perhaps you'll be better going by the M62. :roflmto: :roflmto: :roflmto:
