Glenn sent off his application in August for C1 renewal.
After days on the phone he got through to the DVLA and spoke to someone who said they were still dealing with August applications phone back.
Not easy to do but this morning we finally got through again to be told the DVLA have not got the application on the system and as Glenn's licence ran out in September he can no longer drive at all. Not even the car.
Glenn is disorganised and can't find any proof of anything. He says he got an email saying the DVLA had received the application. Needless to say Glenn can't find the email.
We have tried gmail searches and can't find it. Has anyone received an email about licence renewal and if so can you look at the address it came from please so we can try a search for that? The application was sent recorded but of course he can't find that either. A lot of lessons to be learned here.

I sent my licence off also in August. No response until I phoned through.I didn't receive any email or other acknowledgment. I am now awaiting a treadmill test appointment ,I had a letter from the DVLA regarding that ,but only after I prompted by phone.
If Glenn sent the letter recorded it may be worthwhile checking with the post office re a reciept etc.

Agree with the still drive note ,it's ok for the UK but not overseas.

Only August, you are right at the back of the queue, I started the process in March, licence expired end of May, it is in their system so am using the Section 88 ruling, have copies of everything in a file in date order, and carry that at all times.
Don't mean to be flippant but it is a total farce.
Hope you get things sorted soon
Joe

He can still drive while his application is in (sect 88) as long as his doctor says he's fit to drive, shame he can't find any proof he sent it,tell him to look harder!

He can't drive because his licence expired in September and they say they haven't received his application. So he has been driving illegally since September.
He will have to go through the process again and I think once they have acknowledged they have received his application he will be able to drive.

Make sure that you send it all as a "Signed For" delivery, then download the signature,
DVLA do not sign for individual letters, but the whole sackful, but at least you will have proof that they have it,
Just trying to help :giggle:

If he calls the DVLA at 8 o'clock in the morning he has a good chance if getting through but may have to wait 30 plus mins. If he reapplied for his C1 and had a medical form from the DVLA this should have a reference number on it possibly when he received his reminder to renew the licence. If he had no medical issues the C1 licence comes back reasonably quickly otherwise it is reviewed with the DVLA medical dept. Which takes a while.

It was sent recorded, but Glenn can't find the receipt

Are DVLA putting on a Panto this year?

If so it will probably run till next Christmas.

Geoff
Won't start for at least 2 years , it will take that long to do all the assessments and form filling :giggle:

I think you only get an email confirmation if you applied for renewal on line, but if he is renewing C1 it would have been a paper application.
OH applied online in August with medical issues (although no change from last application)
As he needed a licence to drive in Europe mid December we rang DVLA beginning of November (stressful day trying to get through approx 50 attempts) finally spoke to someone helpful & asked if not possible to issue C1 at the moment could he have normal licence issued until C1 had been processed. We are intending travelling by car for Christmas.
After no news in the next 2 weeks we rang again explaining that we had a deadline for cancelling the hotel and needed to know if a licence would be issued. Spoke to a very helpful person who said they would priorities it, we stressed again a normal licence if C1 not possible.
A week later checked on line & licence renewed which came a few days later in the post with full C1 for next 3 years.

Hils and Glenns, sorry to hear that Glenn is experiencing the same difficulty as so many others Hilary. I have to go through it myself next month for my HGV & PSV renewal, which then becomes annual. 😞

Good luck getting a result (y) from what appears to be a totally inadequate DVLA, ie, not fit for purpose.

Cheers,

Jock.

Hils and Glenns If you haven’t reapplied yet and could manage with the normal licence for a while then you could apply online for standard licence, no medical needed if fit to drive. Once you have received licence then do C1 application to have it added on. That is what I did but OH insisted he wouldn’t have a timescale problem so applied directly for C1 & he did have a problem as in my earlier post.
Men always know better 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Hils and Glenns If the online will not accept your application for a standard licence it is because you have an application being processed which will mean DVLA will have found your application so you could contact them again to see what stage you are at.

I'm sorry to hear that Glen and Hilary, as you know I can feel your pain.:h:

The licence does't expire until age 70 ,only the photo requires renewing. Only the dvla think the licence expires & they only did it to convince the EU that the licence renewal, 10 years, complied with the legislation.
how can a "photo" licence be invalid when a post 97 pink licence runs to 70 without renewal , a green pre97 does the same? Neither of which carry any means of ID of the holder.
The legislation was introduced for photo cards requiring renewal of the photo.NOthing else. Nor to my knowledge has the legislation been changed. A UK licence runs from test pass until age 70. Of course all this only applies if he is under 70?

I think it must be the same with all government departments, my wife as been waiting fifteen weeks for her deceased sisters probate to be sorted,it states on the application it should take up to eight weeks. We think they are working from home ,she rang them last week and she is 100% sure the t--t was still in bed as he had a job to string a sentence together.

Maybe a daft question did you check your junk, spam.and bin (not the wheely ).
Good luck..😀😀
Yes. :giggle: I've only got my husbands word for it that he actually received an email. But I've searched everywhere and can't find it.
