I have actually got my bike out for the summer to have a little ride around, It is classic now and for a limited mileage it cost £71. and at an agreed value. I bought this one new and it is one of the very first off the BMW line for the model and the chassis number is 000000499 I believe it to be the first or very nearly the first, retail bike sold in the UK the other being press demonstrators and sales hype ones. The model went on to sell 100000s in the world market before being dropped as a model when the twins came back along with the super duper sports models. Hope somebody is interested but I do not know how to put it into bikes section. My other old bike is my Suzuki super-six of 1968 which is the first thing I ever bought new. the next new vehicle was my Hymer.

Do you think your Hymer will hold its value the same as the bikes (y)

I hope the Hymer does keep some of the cost it was when I got it at 1.4 euro to the £1 It went up 20000 after the pound dropped for the same model and spec.
The bike is pretty good but the Ebay values is about £600 for the Beemer and £5000 for the super six. Both are exactly as they came from the factory and have not been messed about with and rat-biked like a lot seem to have been. I like my bikes/vehicles as standard and kept that way. for 50 years or so. I will be keeping them until they carry me out .

When they first came out, all us Proper (twin) Beamer buffs, nicknamed them the "flying brick". Bought my RS1000 in `94 (s/h) sold it in 2009 for more than I paid!. From the pic it looks like the 4cyl (1000cc?) they made a 3 cyl 750cc later, then went back to the big twin format.

Doctor from Lincoln Hospital Bought it.

Sadly no bikes now. ? ? ? ?

My mate back then had the Water cooled Suzuki triple (750?). Called them "kettles". Which he replaced with the R1000 special, stripped down and painted white!. Took the pair to the "island" one year now that was an experience!!.

I rode the whole range when they were launched, They were well made but just a little bit too dull to ride, a bit too slow revving and at the time people didn't like having no reserve tap and the indicators on each side. I bet the super six is fun though.

What year is it Gwanygway ? And who did you insure it with ?

Flying Brick.

I came across this recently, David's bike collection. Could you cast your expert eye over them. What are they?, they look rather stylish to me. Has David got good taste in bikes or not.. What sort of money would change hands for such bikes.. (y)

The hardly moving knuckle head is a total cock up build.. who in their right mind puts a disk on the back and twin leading show on the front !
The Trumpet bobber and scrambler are nice though.. The Duc's are prettyu much standard stuff

The BMW are an eclectic mix but he certainly has taste

A custom build commissioned would be about $40 to $50,000 stateside
The standard ones pictured would range from around £8k to £21k

My first bike was a 1972 SUZUKI T250J, in blue, loved that bike, crashed it twice, bent the forks, cracked the heads thinking it’d go faster without head gaskets, holed a piston because the timing was never perfect. Had to let it go to afford a 1973 SUZUKI GT750L.
Always thought the K model BM’s were a good design but preferred the boxers, on my sixth now with 2011 R1200GS twin cam, having had numerous bikes since being sixteen, never been without one.
Also in the middle of rebuilding my 1976 Triumph T140V which I always fancied when I was a teenager but couldn’t afford.

I’d say not, but bikes are an individual thing. Apart from the Ducati Monster and Triumph Thruxton, everything else is some beardy custom trendy jobby that costs huge amounts and is less likely to be ridden any distance.

I have 3 bikes at present, a Yamaha XV 700 bobber, a Vellocette 200 and a pre unit Triton. The bobber is my favourite as it makes an old fat bloke look almost cool, but I wouldn't want to go on a long run with it, as its not built for comfort. I can ride the Vellocette all day in comfort, but having said that it would take all day to get anywhere. The Triton is in the process of being rebuilt after almost 30 years sitting neglected in my mates garage and will possibly be sold once complete as I would quite possibly kill myself on it now.

We had a K100 RT which we loved, downsized to a K75S which would backfire for fun on the overrun and our last one was an R1150 RT which we toured on. I liked the way the indicator switches were set up once you got used to them.

Thanks Hettie I thought this might be the case, they do look the part though and I guess ideal for DBs photo modeling career. I looked at another vid of the cars he owns, more my cup of tea than bikes but I can see the attraction in some bikes.. The only Bikes that I could name and recognise are a Triumph Bonneville and a Vincent 1000 no idea why
though.

Apart from the DesmoSedici that would be about £50k! ?

Who built your bobber and do you have it with you on the Mosel?

We plan to head up to the Mosel (currently in the Dordogne) over the next week to ten days so hopefully will catch up with you then.

Sorry, I have no idea who built it, it was imported from the States where it was built. Unfortunately cook put her foot down and insisted I brought the Smartcar to the Mosel as she disapproved of me disappearing all day on the bike. Look forward to seeing you up here. Oh, and be prepared, its damned hot.

Pictures? (Of the bike!)

We’re looking forward to getting up there and gaining some of your insight!

I'm in the process of getting mine back on the road. Been SORN'd the last couple of years due to non-use because of work shifts/commitments. Hoping to have it road worthy, MOT'd, Taxed and insured in the next couple of weeks.
