Changed the oil yesterday.
2008 130hp Ducato.
No real problems but a couple of observations.

Oil volume, the oil volume needed for the engine including the filter (which I also replaced) is 6.5ltrs.
I struggled to get much more than 6 out with a level vehicle and with hot oil.

Dipstick, isn't the marking rubbish , I like the indication of min and max (the edges of the reduced width of the 'blade' but getting an accurate witness from the oil is very difficult. I did it maybe 5 times before I could get a rough idea that the level was somewhere correct.

Being something of a student of dipsticks the only one I've seen worse is the Ford Ka which is very hard to see any witness on. Best is most VW's which have a plastic cross hatched section on them which works very well.

On mine , which was serviced professionally the year before both eh drain plug and the filter had been massively overtightened and some degree of brute force was required on both.

Heigh Ho.............

Always pays to do it yourself at least you know it's been done correctly. Have you tried laying dipstick against clean bit of kitchen roll after dipping. Your right some dipsticks are really difficult to see hence I use this method.

Got to agree about the dipstick, useless.
Good tip about the kitchen roll, I'll try that.

I'll wait until the oil darkens. Not long with a diesel, then I should be able to make a better assessment.

  1. Some experts I have spoken too ,who service 130bhp fiat engines have told me ,when changing oil ,leave slightly low on the dip stick (approx half a pint ).they run better .Tried it for six years and ran as sweet as a nut.Better low on the dip mark than high.

Use a piece of chalk on dipstick just rub it up and down once ,you can see oil level clearly, leave chalk in engine bay in a safe place .
