Having just had a new cambelt fitted at 5 years old I've discovered I've lost AC. Whilst the dash shows it's running, the gas pressure has been checked and the fuses are fine. But the AC compressor clutch wont engage. I am thinking it's possibly a connector issue as things were no doubt disturbed when the cambelt was fitted. Can someone tell me where the AC clutch relay is hidden and where the cable connects to the clutch as cant see it from looking in the engine bay. Is it hidden underneath as it may have got disconnected during the work. Hope it's an easy fix, thanks Funsters =",'=

I can confirm that changing the cambelt does disturb the a/c.
When ours was done recently, the next day the garage phoned up and said they had forgotten to reconnect the a/c, mechanic came out to our house, went underneath and re connected it, don’t know exactly what he did as I was out and he just told my wife, “ all ok now”
I hadn’t noticed anything wrong, as garage only 2 miles away.

as Ratcatcher has stated it is a plug in somewhere on the ac pump. If not then the garage should be looking for the fault if it was working before it went in..

The a/c clutch is driven from the serpentine belt and there will be a two pin plug going into it, it's probably this that needs reconnecting ?
Here's a picture of the clutch on my Renault, just so you have an idea what it looks like. It's the bottom pulley in the picture and the serpentine belt should go around the underside of it, but I had it looped over the top out of the way as I had to strip it out as it had rusted up and stopped working due to us Sorning it for over a year, due to Covid.

Thanks guys, that's most reassuring to know. I'm getting a call from the garage t'row so hopefully they will confirm this as a plug connector issue. It's damned annoying as it's a 330mile round trip and I never checked it before heading home. But I've got ramps and tools so will definitely check to see it's plugged in or not myself as soon as I get a mo. Will update the thread when fixed. Thank against Funsters =",'=

On my 2.3 Ducato the a/c is driven by a separate drive belt. It’s a stretch belt and can easily be damaged on fitting especially if you are refitting the old belt. This belt is also needed to change the timing belt. So possibly this has been left of, or broke on first use after the cam belt was changed. So worth checking whilst looking at the connector on the A/C pump, if yours is the same setup as mine.

Finally all sorted. Seems mechanic had failed to reconnect the AC compressor clutch power connector. I re-instated it and all works fine. Phew what a drama 😉
