Had an engine warning light come on the RAV 4 when driving back from West Yorks this afternoon car went into limp mode. Recovery bod plugged in the OBD reader which identified a DPF issue. He said the pressures were fine so it wasnt blocked and reset it. He thought it could be an issue with the DPF regen cycle. Few miles down the road , the lights came on again.

Ill be taking to the Toyota garage tomorrow to see what they say as it was only serviced by them on Friday.

If it is a DPF issue, do I bite the bullet and fit a new one or has anyone tried these DPF cleaning services with any success?

if the pressures were ok then it is likely that the dPF sensor is the fault and sending the engine management light on then into limp mode.

had same problem on the van ( twice ) when first had it

Age? Mileage? Style of driving?
2012, 80000miles, I like to push it. My commute to work is 10 miles in a 50mph, 5 miles in a national. At least once a month I head up to West Yorks so able to blow out the cobwebs.

give a thrash at 50 in 3 gear till it goes out works on my suzuli vitara 2006 4 wheel dr

Try a good thrashing at 3000rpm along the m62 for 20mins. The dpf needs to be hot to regen.

Sometimes there is a software update so it regens more often.

If pressure is ok, no need to force regen. First needs proper scan from the garage and take it from there. It may be the pressure sensor as mentioned above, or other condition is not met to regenerate due to other fault. The driving at 3k rpm is not needed, a regen can kick in even in ormal traffic conditions, IF all conditions are met. If there is a fault that can make regen unsafe, it will stop regen, regardless if you trash it on3rd gear at 3krpm.

I did give it a “good run” in 4th after codes were reset. Ill see what Toyota say tomorow👍

I’d be inclined to have a carbon clean and get them to turn off the DPD,( easy job) I’ve done the same to my car and it’s been incredible,,good luck in you choices👍

Toyota say forced regen required.

they may be correct but usually a forced regen in necessary to unblock as partially blocked dpf. which in turn is shown of by the differential pressures across the DPF being out of spec..

I thought the first check said the pressure were fine.

Give it a very very hard high reving drive. It should then go into after burn cycle and clear any coke. Used to work for my Jaguar XF.

The recovery guys said it was fine. Toyota say it isnt. Should be getting sorted tomorrow.
