We are off to the Netherlands on Friday. Despite living in North Sheilds we are travelling via Dover and saving over £1000 😳 vs the direct ferry from our doorstep. But that's another story. Been trying to scope out somewhere to park up for a short kip close to Dover but motorhome stopovers site not turning up much with most spots having reviews saying now not allowed etc... Can anyone recommend somewhere? Likely be arriving after 10pm and need to be at the port 4am
Thanks
Dan

From Sunderland, I used to arrive at Dover at midnight, pull up at Marine Parade and get a few hours Kip for the 4 or 5am ferry then an hours Kip on board.

You could maybe gat a ferry pitch at Black horse C&MC site a few miles from the tunnel if their open.
Stopped there a few times, they will leave pitch details etc. on the notice board for you if the office is shut.
You phone for the gate code before 5pm as your going to be late there

Are you in need of hook up or just a lay-by for few hours? Going independently?

Try Britstops

Temple Ewell, 3 Kearsney Court on park for night has never let us down, we have stayed there many times without any issues with a 7.5m motorhome. There's a couple of spaces perfect for a long overhang too. It's much better than the pics show on park4night.

Bridge Old A2 Top of Bridge Hill Canterbury End. Very large lay-by, slight incline. Free

Maison Deu carpark, free overnight and 5 minutes from the port.

Thanks but Apparently it's not allowed on marine parade anymore

Hi, it's not a coach park, it's a small car park next to a pretty little park, its a nice place for a stroll.

Don't hold me to it, I was there in January this year and the parking area was still there as we stayed the night but they were making some improvements from what I see. I hope it hasn't gone.

I parked on Dover parade march ok then .or the park and ride Canterbury.

Canterbury new dover road Park and ride all services working
At New Dover Road P+R now. Aire is open, toilets closed and no P+R buses. Parking is 50p a day and you can catch the local bus (16) outside for £3.50 return.

I think you are correct about the stretch along the front called 'Marine Parade', because it is residential, but the road continues west and then becomes 'Waterloo Crescent' where parking is still allowed AFAIK. In fact I think it is also allowed on the part of Marine Parade that extends west of the junction with Wellesley Road, before its name changes to Waterloo Crescent.

The prohibition may have been extended since we were last there.

Do they allow you to park overnight in the 'loading lanes' ? It would be noisy though I expect, or could you leave home later and get some shut eye as soon as you get off the ferry?

Or find an industrial estate via Google maps and get there late/leave early ?

I'm a great believer in getting there early and also giving myself time in case things go wrong.

I like to get south of the M25 and then stop for a couple of hours: Tesco Extra at Ashford allows 3 hours free parking so we've been there, used their loos, topped up on milk and got a couple of hours shut-eye, remembering to set the alarm to give time for another loo-stop (the joys of getting old!) before the 3h has expired.

We've also driven into Ashford to get something to eat if that fits in with the timetable eg before 9pm. Check Google maps to see if anything takes your fancy.

Also fill up on fuel if the prices on t'other side are high OR if the timing is going to make problems guaranteeing finding a supply just that bit difficult.

The OP said he was arriving after 10pm. AFAIK the P&R closes for entries at about 8;30pm, so they will not be able to get in.

Yes but park on entrance road lots do for a few or overnight if can’t get in

This is doubtlessly too late but did you investigate the Harwich-Hook of Holland route?

To get from mid-Norfolk to Rotterdam is 250miles plus £135 ferry [Monday 27 July, 9am sailing].
Going via Dover it is 350miles plus £139 ferry. (plus Dartford crossing plus effort of M25, Antwerp, etc).
[6m MH, 2 passengers, no pets]
If you go for the overnight ferry it is another £100 but many say that it is worth it.

try the Tesco off to the right of the A2 route into Dover, first main roundabout, if memory serves correctly at White Cliffs Park, Honeywood Pkwy, Dover CT16 3PS. The car park is usually emptyish after 10pm and provided you keep away from the store side of the car park and well in it is quiet

Teso now has a 2.9m ht barrier. It is probably slightly higher, but we do not know how much.

Anyway I am sure like most s/markets there is a 2 or 3 hourr limit after which the parking company can issue a charge/fine., so maybe not worh the risk.

We use Pubstops and there is the White Horse in Ashford. Lots of room but I'm not if they would like the late arrival/early departure. Give them a call.

SILLY ME!

Those mileages include the sea crossings:
127 miles Harwich to HoH so only 123 miles of driving (5 gallons@£6 = £30?)
versus
22 miles Dover to Calais so 328 miles of driving (13 gallons = £78?)

HTH - Gordon
