Has anyone any experience of changing the default Ducato radio circa 2009 for a modern unit having such things as Apple Carplay? I am seriously impressed with one my son put in his Volvo which connects to the maps on your phone for navigation.

Maybe get some dd removal pins from amazon etc. and check it has a double din hole to start off with. My 2017 Peugeot looks dd but is actually single din and I would have to set about the existing hole to get dd to fit (some have done this).

I have just refitted a double din in an Iveco and got the dash facia from eBay base junkies

Hi I have done several you will most likely have to remove a plastic bar to fit the double din, get the correct surround kit and it’s really easy here is a video. If you need a hand just message me.

you can fit a DD in the Ducato with the SD and a pocket, but you have to do a bit of MINOR plastic surgery.
and buy a suitable facia surround.

when you remove the radio and pocket there is a central plastic lug that will need to be carefully cut off, easy enough tho..

Sony XAV-AX1000 is an easy fit
Can be done without sawing the dash
Has car play but not DAB

XAV-AX1005DB Has DAB

Put in a single din unit with a flip-up screen so you get the same size display as a d/din unit and still have the upper storage.

Fitted a DD into my Ducato a few weeks ago, you need to remove the old radio, pull out the top pocket, cut the centre bracket, run a DAB aerial, Mike and the sat nav aerial and also connect up the speed sync from the CANBus if the new double din needs it.

If you look at the below video it gives you an understanding what’s needed it’s not a 5 mins job.

Here is my radio 2009 Ducato.

Panasonic DD for us - great unit and CarPlay is brilliant. Sorry no idea what the model number is!
Didn’t bother with the gps sat nav version as CarPlay plus our separate TomTom unit does it for us.

Slightly off centre from topic, but it may work for you. We use an old iPad and a Garmin Glo for GPS and you have a nice big screen with maps. The head unit is wired in for hands free calling which is a bonus.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are the future. It is brilliant. I have it in my Ducato motorhome.

If you only have a single din hole like I did in the mercedes, I can definitely recommend this one from Pioneer. Easy to install with the bells and whistles you need 👍

I used a double din of Chinese origin with CarPlay. Easy with a bit of work like cutting off the bar. Like many of the Chinese units not quite standard double din so a bit of jiggerypokey to fit but it works. Does not have DAB but used in Devon a few weeks back with Apple maps on iPhone and works fine. Gaps filled in using black glue sticks

Yes, done it on two vans now. Very easy. I installed a Pioneer "App Radio" which is a slightly left of field choice but worked very well indeed

I fitted a Kenwood DAB unit which connects to a rear view Cam and a dashcam, dash cam does lane departure, says if you are to close and if you fail to set off. reversing camera is brilliant. Unit connects to phone (Android or Apple) and displays google maps and Waze. My ducato is 2003 so took a bit of fettling but for yours DD adapters are available.

I fitted a pioneer double din head unit and all is good except I can’t use the phone, something to do with front pre outs (whatever they are) so I still can’t use the phone, maybe I ought to get it to an audio centre to get them to sort it👍 Everything else is good, camera, usb, cd apple play etc, but no dab aerial 🤷‍♂️

Ah...... it used to but I never use the phone in the van - even if connected I simply cut or ignore the call
