My favourite all time engine.

My favourite engines are the Coventry Climax single overhead cam FWA,B and E engines.

Some of the best times I remember as a kid were spent in the pits and paddock at Crystal Palace race circuit in the 1960's which influenced my hankering in later years for something Coventry Climax powered.

Roll on to 2012 when I bought an old Coventry Climax powered fire pump off of eBay for a £100, converted it to automotive spec and fitted into my 1961 Austin Healey Mk2 Sprite, why, well Jack Brabham was one of my racing driver hero's and back in 1961 to 1962, he did the same conversion on Sprites and Midgets to help pay for his racing at the time.
My engine dyno-ed at 139 bhp which makes it lively and fun to drive in a 700Kg car with lousy late 50's designed suspension.

In the days when the average guy could reach all the bits and fix things although the triple SUs must have been fun to tune.

I had a 1962 3.8 FHC in 1970 when I was 23 lovely car and just to think sold it just before we married to go towards deposit for our first house.
£400.00 and struggled to get that.
Oh I only wish I still had it now, but when I really think about I could get in but how the hell I would get out.

But in good nick what would it be worth now. A beautiful classic.

I originally fitted the 1216cc FWE engine in mine but it now has a tuned 1470cc long stroke FWB lump in it on twin Weber 40 DCOE's, driven hard, 14 miles to the gallon. :Eeek:

Well the 2 cars prior to the E Type was Volvo P1800 with the upswept front Bumper as the Saint drove. Then the last of the Mk1 Lotus Cortina which I used for the odd hill climb and the Brighton Speed Trials. Put the 3 cars together and you would be looking at one £125000.00 to £175000.00
I have seen E Type,s at over £20000.00 that have had a full detailed nut and bolt restoration.
