Hi all, we have a 6 month old Dometic NRX 90v fridge freezer. Almost from the beginning of use, the back wall under the freezer in the fridge compartment ices up. They of course that ice slowly melts and we have a water at the bottom of the fridge which drips out to the floor when we drive. I've tried all the fridge settings, including removing the freezer but still have the problem. I read that there is a drain plug under the 2 clear plastic draws at the bottom of the fridge, but where would that drain too? And is this correct?

Hope someone can help. Thanks

On ours it drained to a little plastic cup mounted on a hot pipe round the back but I've extended it to under the van now

I'm considering an NRX as they seem to have somehow managed significantly better power efficiency than anyone else.

I'd be interested to know how you (or other owners!) have got on with it other than the drain issue.

We have a Thetford compressor fridge with very similar efficiency levels to the Dometic NRX. The 0.4kw/24h comes from using a compressor rather than an absorption process. We don’t have any more of an icing problem with our compressor fridge than we did with a 3 way one. The difference is it is far easier to run the compressor fridge colder than an absorption one and it gets cold far quicker. We control the icing by not running the fridge on the colder settings. The Thetford has a drip container below the cooling panel which is easily removed and emptied.

The evaporator cups at the back of the absorption fridges we had in the past did sometimes overflow so I added a pipe that drained it out through the lower external vent. I think the theory of the cup on the return pipe was possibly to help cool the returning coolant but we didn’t notice any change in performance by diverting the run off.

Thanks for the reply, I don't hink many people are using this model yet as I can't find much about it anywhere. The fridge works great but the water dripping is a major problem and I don't have a solution.

Maybe too much warm air getting in, make sure the door is shutting properly.

Looks like it's a wheel arch model same as mine, there should be a drain down through the step bit at the back. It will be easy to sort out, probably blocked with a bit of paper or something, push a cable tie down it and twist it about 👍

I'll take a look, but where is that draining to? I see what looks like a plug just under the 2 plastic boxes at the bottom of the fridge, is that what you mean? Thx

If you look here there should be a small drain hole (red dot).
It drains into a little container that sits on top of the compressor. The compressor usually gets warm so it gently evaporates it.
If there isn't one it's the first fridge I've ever seen without one.. There must be something to collect and get rid of the water otherwise it's not fit for purpose 😳🥴

Collecting water on top of an electrical component doesn’t sound very sensible. The installation manual shows the condensation drain going from the bottom of the fridge and draining away below, presumably outside.

It's perfectly safe, domestic fridges are all like that.

Wow that's a really bad design 🤔
If it was me, I'd look at the possibility of drilling a hole under the evaporator and fitting a collection tray 🤔 maybe some electrical mini trunking with no lid would collect the water.

Yes this is how my fridge is. So when I put it out, it looks like I have to drill a hole down and out for the water to escape, as I can't keep pulling it out to check and the water runs on my floor so worried it's going to damage the floor etc. thx

So I see the drain under the fridge and understand what and how it works now. But it does not seem like a good design as the only way to fix this is to drill a hole straight down and out so the water can drain via a small attached hose....

Thanks to all for your input, most appreciated.
