Hi all, my fridge doesn't work on 12v or 240mains. I get a green light on both when I turn left hand switch but fridge doesn't get cold. The previous owner made me aware fridge was not working. He had however tried to get the fridge fixed and had a new element fitted about 1.5 years ago, sadly it still doesn't get cold. Is there anything obvious that it could be? I can't find where it is plugged in it must hidden behind fridge itself. I've checked fuse board and 12v fuses next to battery box under passenger seat and all seems ok. It's a 2005 ford transit Autosleeper. I have no experience of these fridges.
Cheers Mark

Fridge model number would help. Often on a label inside the fridge.

Assume it works on gas then?
Also trust you are aware that it will only work on 12 v. When the engine is running.

Not tried gas yet? It's the RM 7series the one with only two knobs. Yes I've tried 12 v whilst driving still not working. Obviously I knew it was not working when I purchased van just wondering if it's something obvious before I take it to a garage for repair or buy a replacement. The owner did say it worked on gas only but I've never checked myself yet.

A replacement 3 way fridge is expensive.
Best check in f it's working on gas first if it is there can't be much wrong with it.

I'll get it booked in at an independent caravan garage when I get time. Yes replacements are very expensive. Thanks for help though.

first thing would be to see if it works on gas that proves the fridge has gas stil after that its a case of using a multimeter to see if the 12 and 240 volts are getting to the fridge access is usually via the bottom vent outside

Right and if fridge isn't gassed up still?

Sure Dometic series 7 fridges need a 12v control voltage for ANYTHING to work.. not just whilst driving.
Could it be something as simple as not getting that... fuse/broken wire/bad connection.
Does light inside come on.. Sure that is from the 12v control curcuit.
Sorry just reread your post and you say you have green lights so that tells me you do indeed have control voltage.... Sorry.

No light on in fridge, only green light on the dial, but I have read the dial has an independent 12v source?

Ah now that's got me thinking... some older models did indeed have a seperate battery for the control lights (AA's or AAA's).
However I thought that was older than series 7s. Do you have a seperate battery compartment????

Can't see anything really, but I've mooched about online and it appears the plastic strip that houses the the dials can be removed and this gives you some access to wiring on top of the fridge? I'll poke about at weekend with the usual ytube video lol

Check out your model number and check the wiring diagram and any yu tube hints. (y)

you should have two twelve volt supplies one to run the electrics and a second for the element which is only live when the engine is running do you have external vents?

Well I've had the fridge fixed it didn't work on either power options. It needed a 240v element, a gas burner and jet, a burner harness and had a broken 12v wire in rear of fridge. The lad said the damage to the element was due to it being fitted incorrectly probably a main dealer cutting corners and attempting to fit element through exterior vent. The gas burner he said old age and neglect and the broken wire again due to wrestling hands in vent hole. The fridge was removed and tested on bench the guy ordered all parts which because of age took some finding. I was shown all the offending parts and offered choice to order my own new parts but just let him crack on with it. £366 including parts and labour ooooch.
Work carried out by A19 caravans in Seaham a great company. I'm happy and chilled now lol.
