Hi I have a Dometic RMD8505 fridge fitted in our van, it works fine on hookup and12v with the engine running. It changes automatically to gas when 240v is not available, the gas ignites after 2- 4 clicks but the fridge does not cool.
Has anyone come across this problem and found a solution, thanks in anticipation Pete

Has it worked on gas before?

Crap may have fallen down flue onto burner.
unclip cover, is it blue or yellow?
if yellow needs cleaning

You probably need the jet replacing or cleaning, happens a lot to these fridges, the bugs and spiders get into everything.
The gas flame doesn’t burn strong enough to heat up the fridge properly

Ours had the same problem, check the jet first.

If all is okay with that, check the burner. A bigger one was fitted to ours presumably as the old one wasn’t enough.

As others have said, could be the flue being blocked as well.

Ours finally had a new cooling unit which was thousands. However I suspect had they replaced the burner first, they could have saved quite a lot of money.

The good news is that if it is working on electric, it probably isn’t the cooling unit.

It definitely isn't the cooling unit.😊

I agree wholeheartedly!

Travelworld still insisted that was the issue and changed the burner to a bigger one too at the same time......

Thanks for the input, I have blown around the burner area with compressed air, it looks quite clean. Has anyone got a part number for the correct jet

I am afraid I don’t. Travelworld may be able to help.

Their workshop will remember the fridge and the customer. :-)

I find it a bit confusing that the frig should need a retrofit with a larger capacity Burner unit?. One would have thought the manufacturer would have sized it sufficiently as new?. My understanding of thermodynamics is that there is a finite amount of heat that can be conducted by a given surface area?. Also the basic function of the heating element is to promote the separation of the gasses which are cooled and ultimately recombine during the process to remove heat from the Evaporator, and ultimately the refrigerated space.

When I had problems on gas in my last van I'd done all I could with cleaning, burner dismantling, etc. and it still didn't cool correctly on gas. When I researched the part number for a replacement burner I found it had been fitted with the wrong one. The burner had a number of slots in it: the one in my fridge had three slots & the correct part had four. No problem after fitting the correct burner. I had no reason to assume the part had ever been changed so I suspect the fridge had been installed new in that condition.

WHY... I have the RMD8555 and never had any issues on gas... WHY does it need a bigger burner unit than Dometic has fitted.
Has yours worked on gas in the past? I believe a lot of fridge issues in moho's & caravans is the bad fitting of the units by manufacturers who don't understand the requirement for limited space between back of fridge and van wall to create a chimney effect to get a good draw over the evaporater. ( Have you ever tried to get a good fire going with a poorly designed chimney... same principle). If you have big gap at back have builder fitted a baffle as per Dometic fitting guide?

No idea, it isn’t unknown for manufacturer’s to fit the wrong part in the factory. It did get cold but would hover at about 12 degrees on gas.

All I can tell you is that changing the cooling unit and the burner fixed the issue.

As it cooled fine on electric, I can only presume the cooler unit was fine and it was the burner.

I had my fridge fixed at dms motorhome s in Nuneaton, not far from you.they are a domestic service centre. £90.00 later it was fixed. Not worth messing about yourself unless you knew what the fault is and the part required

I had the same problem and contacted Dometic. An engineer phoned me back and advised replacing the burner and jet and said it was vital the correct size jet is used, KZ16 in my case. This has fixed the problem.

Sometimes happens that a dealer will "borrow" a part from a display van to get a customer's problem sorted, then replace that part later with whatever turns up ?
