Morning funsters. My RML8230 fridge in a 2016 ducato seems ti work ok on 12v on gas, but ices up after a few hours on 240v. Any ideas what might be ailing it please?

If you turn it down does it make a difference to temperature?

Moist air in the fridge / motorhome as the temperature looks correct.
I'd try it again in a month or two.
No idea why it should differ on different heat sources though?

Door not closed properly or door seal not sealing, 🤔

Or....
We had a new van in 2000and????
and went straight down to Spain.
It had the same problems.

The little???? whatever it's called attached to the fins was replaced.

I believe it's a thermostat.

Yes. Usually a fridge will freeze all the food if the thermostat is faulty but these gas fridges are so poor they don't 😁☹️

Thanks folks. Door seal is fine. Thermostat set to minimum on 240v 3 o clock, little higher on gas. Maintaining temp now while travelling- was a problem with alternator not charging leisure battery, but that’s sorted now. Regards Rob

The element will always ice up eventually, especially if there’s excess moisture in the fridge, or just over time as moisture gets to the element when the door is opened. I can only think that the thermostat on the 230V heating element might not be functioning correctly, leading to the cooling fins being super cold on mains.

Check the thermistor is located correctly , there should also be a reference resistance for any given temperature , many Dometic docs online.

Here are the resistance values for the temperature sensor:

I get what you're saying but this one's on 240v (in his/her/they're dreams)

Ours didn't work when we were at Bonterra so that's when I put the two together. We were on EHU as well.

Fridge vent covers may help when the outdide temp is very low, I think they recommend using them when the temp gets down to 8 Degrees.

Maybe the bottom one I wouldn't put the top one on unless it's extremely cold.

Thanks again. What's a thermistor? Excuse my ignorance? Waiting for new burner ignition, but can't get gas to light manually, although it worked at dealers on Friday. Plenty of gas & yes it's turned on.

It's a temperature sensor for an electronic controller.

The old mechanical thermostats have a silvery capillary tube called a phial. 👍

Morning. We’ll after 18 hours running on gas, fridge is at 5c but no ice on fins. So only happening in 240v/ehu. Back to dealer. We’ve got a new burner piezo ignition on order to make lighting gas easier.

Our fridge freezes stuff in the fridge on gas and that’s because thermostat pipe is broken.

Our 240 volt thermostat stopped working and I replaced it with a cheap generic one and that has to be turned down to 1 , any more and it will freeze stuff.

I put one of these on mine, great quality, you get much more control of the temperature and a didital readout too 🙏🥰
