Hello funsters. Anybody out there answer something that that has always puzzled me.
On a Dometic RMD8555 Fridge/Freezer (that is the large double door one with entirely seperate freezer section) and you adjust thermostat are you adjusting temp of whole unit or just fridge section leaving freezer to maintain max cooling regardless of thermostat setting. ???
Stephen

Don’t think there is a way of adjusting freezer is there? On the three we've had only fridge adjustment?

Thnx Speve. I thot that would be case...dont know why anybody would want to turn freezer down but just to be sure we have always kept thermo at max just in case freezer did start thawing out. Next time out will be more daring and try reducing thermo and see what happens
Stephen

Mitzimad is correct, especially when on gas. I usually operate the unit on the third bar of the thermostat setting.

Thnx all... third bar then it is next time we're out.

There is only one cooling circuit the freezer only freezes due to the same size cooling fin in an area 20% the size of the fridge.

It can be helpful to leave a couple of cheap fridge thermometers in the compartments. It is true, particularly in hot climates that you should turn down the control to around half, otherwise you can be adding to the outside heat you are trying to overcome.

So if that is the case Lenny surely if you turn thermostat up/down it must also affect the freezer... matter of interest where exactly is the probe for thermostat??

On my 8505 it is in the fridge clipped to the bottom right corner of the fins.

Turning down to half way used to work when the gas control was a valve that simply varied the height of the flame and was unaffected by the thermostat setting. Most recent Dometic units (and definitely AES units) use the thermostat to control both gas and mains (and possibly 12v) settings. So the gas flame is adjusted independently of the user and is under the control of the thermostat.

Ours seems to work at its best at about the 7 o’clock position.
I’ve also fitted a switchable 120mm fan on the right hand side of the top fridge vent.
Kept the ice cubes and lollies frozen when in France in August last year 35°C.

Lenny... notice you have fan inside fridge never seen that before..add on? and does it make a differance

Yes it makes a big difference particularly the time it takes to recover after opening the door.
Link to my install below.
The results I recorded were just with plastic boxes in the fridge to fill the space. In practice tend to get higher temperatures but I think it is due to where my temperature sensor is at the back of the fridge. One example, it was reading 7 deg but some mince towards the front by the door catch was starting to freeze. One day I'll get around to moving the sensor.

It needs a bottle cooler stat with the phial in the return air really. The stat fitted isn't designed for a fan assisted evaporator. (commercial bottle coolers have internal fans usually)
Don't know if the electrical connections will be compatible though as the bottle stats are single pole switching.

Thanx Lenny.. intriquing

It's just a thermistor that came with the controller, it's not essential as the fan runs 95% of the time anyway, if the weather's cold I tend to turn it off anyway. Where I have it positioned when the fridge crammed with food there is no airflow around it (blue tacked to the back wall), if I move it I will fit it under the shelf.

Everybody should know that the only physical way to check your fridge / freezer is at the correct temperature is by placing your head inside and sticking your tongue on the element.
If you can remove your head after 3 seconds, the element is not cold enough!!! :roflmto: :roflmto: :roflmto:
