Looking for nice stop off places, safe woodland walks for our new dog.

Suggestions along this route greatly appreciated!

Exeter and A30 to Honiton

A35 to Axminster , Bridport, Dorchester

Then A31 to New Forest

We would like to break up the journey, 2 or 3 different stop off and a couple of days at each place.

We don't mind a bit of a detour off the route. Someone on this forum posted a woodland walk at Wareham, but I don't remember the actual site!

Thanks
xx

Don't know if it fits in with your planned route but Cofton Park near Dawlish is great for dogs. Walk out of site up hill into woods, then down to Dawlish Warren and walk along sea front to Dawlish, bus back to Cofton Park. Also Ladram bay near Sidmouth, great coastal path through woods to Sidmouth or other way to Budleigh Salterton. Both ACSI sites.

just returned from a week in lovely campsite near Honiton called Forest Glade, lovely wooded walks for the dog, not to expensive with all the very clean facilities. One warning do not use the sat nav, go by the route on the website ,

I believe Wareham forest is where you are thinking of we have not used it but we have friends with two dogs who love it there are lots of nice walks, just be aware of Adders when out walking.(y)

stayed there years ago - incredible night skies & used to enjoy watching the gliders go off from the site next door.

@big map might be able to help with more sites

Apart from Ashurst and Denny Wood, all the other "camping in the forest" sites allow dogs and all have great walks from the site. Oknell and Roundhill are probably my favourites, with Matley Wood coming close third. "Back of Beyond" - on the A31 and Adults only has its own dedicated enclosed 18 acre "Woodland Dog Walk".

The Wareham forest dog walk from birchwood touring park is great, but a few confirmed cases of Alabama rot there too. current thinking is its a fungal spore that causes the illness which is usually fatal to dogs

Bingham grange Caravan club site at Bridport, dog walking routes and the site has a licensed restaurant, used to be an adult only site but now Caravan club

If you like heritage railways and plenty of space, we have just spent a few days at Harman’s Cross near Swanage. Harman’s Cross campsite has views over the hills and of the railway with trains every 30 mins at weekends and every 90 mins in the week. The station is adjacent so you can go to Swanage or to Corfe Castle. Plenty of footpaths around. Don’t know how suitable for a dog off lead though if new to you dog.
