I read this on another forum. Is this true? I know when my vehicle is tested on the rollers it does read the weight at the same time but didn't realise that it then gets sent to DVLA.Is that the case?

Text copied from elsewhere.

I had no idea that now for class 4 vehicles/ Private vehicles the rolling road weighs the vehicle at the same time, and the weight is recorded and sent to The DVLA along with the results of the test. It takes the front axle weight and the rear axle and adds the result.

Not to the best of my knowledge
There was talk years ago of intergrating emmissions test into the mot system and that fell flat on its backside i have seen no similar plans for brake testers or weight so a confident NO

the rollers definately weigh the vehicle to work out efficiency but dont know if it records it on mot program as the tester has to enter the efficiency manually

Just read the same. The poster is one I'd trust, but the garage could have made a mistake in saying the weight is recorded I guess?

If it is right though, it could have massive implications for a lot of motorhomers. Say with an insurance claim or after a accident?

But only if they are overweight. Like the mot, it will only be a snapshot of the weight at the time and not a reflection of the weight at the time of any incident

Our van went in for MOT last week. As we haven't yet been to a weigh bridge, we asked the tester if the axle weights and gross weight were recorded, his reply was No. As ours has 4 wheels on the rear axle he said he could try and get a weight measurement for our records, but it was quite difficult to do so as he would have to make sure that all 4 wheels were square on the rolling road.

My rollers and very many others in use DO NOT weigh the vehicle at any time

Depending on type of roller system fitted , it may be printed on the printout if printout is used. All rollers have load sensing ,and this will be used , and where data of tests are saved on machine this will be recoverable . However DVSA do not accept this as evidentialy accurate enough if that makes sense . This info has always been there old or new test is irrelevant

My Rollers dont have a print out or load sensing

We are only interested in Brake testing weights not what the vehicle weighs

The MOT tester for my van took a note of the axle weights on a piece of paper and gave it to me. He does a lot of motorhomes and systematically does this as he is aware of payload issues and does it as a favour but did emphasise that the only axle weights that matter are those from a calibrated weighbridge

They can not weigh them or how would the bent garages be able to get the emissions from another motor to get the duff one through ?

I noticed from the last MoT that weights had been recorded - different MoT station to the one always used before. However the MoT is included with the servicing and habitation checks and as I almost completely empty the van on this occasion every year it wouldn't have any implications for me.

I empty it to make things like damp checks easier and when I come to reload I only put back stuff we've used in the last year, except of course emergency things.

Do you select a vehicle ID , or code when you start the test ?

My van was driven down the road with a machine of somekind to test brakes on the road - just down the road and back - apparently due to extras you can carry on motorhome and not actually knowing laden weight at MOT time - so not on a rolling road like normal where you can see the brake efficiency or balance between the sets of brakes

Hi all.
When I had my Mot done end of March, the first Mot since it was classed as a motor caravan, it was weighed.
I didn't ask if the info was sent to DVLA or not. The weight is on the vehicle check sheet but is not shown on the Mot test Certificate.
If I had known it would have made sure it was empty of stuff,to get a better reading, just for my interest.

Cheers Chris.

that would be with tapley meter http://www.bowmonk.com/products/view/tapley-brake-test-meter

At the last MOT on my 7500kg RV I asked the tester to note the axle weights when he did the brake test.... . I think he forgot.!

About 950kg front
About 2500kg rear

The 10 cylinder engine and auto box weighed more than that on the front.

That was in full touring trim and I was concerned about payload as it was already downplated from 8250kg for the UK market.

Mine went for MOT , usual straight through, garage owner is a motorhome owner and we always have a chat.... We got onto payload...his van is plated at 4250 and he said he has little wiggle room with kit....he said your van is pretty light, I said apart from water empty and half a tank of diesel, Mrs Sg plus clothes, empty fridge and our bikes....it's ready for the off...he said well you'll have little chance of being overweight.... His kit weighs the van as well as axle weights on the brake tester apparently.... Way over my head.. safe travels all
