I have been buying presents for my new van that I have paid a deposit on, I now have

Alarm fitting arranged
Payload upgrade arranged
Got my quote for rear air assist
Bought a new gorgeous original Silver Screen
Bought a heavy duty wheel clamp to go with my alarm and tracker as I would prefer thieves to go next door
Bought a new Smart TV
Bought a personal number plate
Cab mats
Generator 2,000kw gas and petrol
A new Kampa blow up 390 Rally Pro awning
A new annex for the above
Blackview remote viewing dash cam
Wifi system and SIM
Speaking with an upholsterer about redesigning the interior, curtains, cushions and seating covers, also bed linen

My old van is sold and leaves for its storage facility tomorrow, my driveway will look heavenly after 9yrs with a van on it, I don't need the new one until next July but don't want to pay £102mth storage at the facility, anyway that one is full now.

So firstly should I have another look around or accept that for what I need Swift is the way to go, can always take the stickers off ;) Leave it at the dealers for a few months for free or just collect it and put not on my driveway?

Any advice?

This might be a daft question - but why don't you need it until next July ?

We use ours all year round.

?
We are boat people not motorhomers, we just pretend to be motorhomers for 6 weeks a year when we pop to France, mind you a boat is just a motorhome on the water so very similar, just a different class (y)

So you only use it a maximum of six weeks a year ?

Is there any chance I could sell mine and borrow yours for 46 weeks a year ?

Just asking.

Do you need it dropped there or cab you collect from London?

Do I get free storage?

When you come home from France leave it at your departure point in France and I'll pick it up from there.

You dont have to leave the wine cabinet full - but it would be appreciated if you did.

Do you want the ice machine left on?

You have asked the question so here goes, especially as on quite a few of your threads you have suggested that money isn’t a problem. If you are now not even going to use it until next July then don’t buy one at all. Fly your family down there or hire a mini bus or even buy an old one mini bus if you need it for the transport. Rent somewhere down in the South of France for 6 weeks each year. If you are buying a brand new van and then re upholstering it just think of the depreciation, it’s huge in the first year or two.
For a while it sounded like you were thinking of using it a bit when your wife was still working, now it doesn’t. It just sounds like madness and a terrible waste of money. Mind you it’s yours to waste of course.

Just a thought... why don’t you buy a caravan?

We’re in Norway at the moment and they have fantastic caravans. The makes are Fendt and Kabe. They are absolutely enormous and winterised so very good quality. As you need it for your grandchildren and for only six weeks a year I wonder if that may be an option for you?

Just have another look around, plenty new vans in stock and at the end of the year will be cheaper.

Thanks, I have had a caravan and don't really fancy another, I did look though and the top of the range Swift one is only around £32k and scarily inside it looked similar to motorhomes double the price. One idea was to buy an old one and just leave it in France, its only 300 Euro a year to store it down there, but I don't know how much longer I will be going there, once the outlaws are dead that's it no more for me!

I see you have missed out a cover for your new Swift. Oh I forgot you have a boat so will be used to having water around your feet.;)

I’d get a caravan if I were you... what’s the point in buying a motorhome when you park on a site for 6 weeks?

You’d have much more space, Only have to pay around half the price and have your car to use when you’re in France.

Yes we rent an Avis car while for the time we are there and that isn't cheap, although ts pretty pointless and we hardly use it due to heavy traffic, bikes are better. You do have a point however, I have a good towing car so no problem, may have another look, anyone looking for a brand new awning and annex in size L :)

Its in our new heated barn (y)

Why not simply get an older MH that still allows you to use it in the LEZ etc and refurb it to how you want, if you buy sensibly ( ) you might not loose much at all if you come to sell it sooner than expected, certainly a heck of a lot less than buying a new MH.

Alternatively a good second hand caravan and tow it down there, leave it in storage when you don't need it, a lot cheaper than any other option you've suggested.

I'm beginning to wonder if someone ought to confiscate your wallet :giggle: ... I don't expect an answer to this but if you couldn't afford it regardless would it make you think more carefully about your spending?
