many many years! since I was a kid
I suppose that will depend how long a base vehicle has sat in their yard waiting to be converted. its not unusual to be several months and I have hears of one that was unregistered for 2 years. this was most obvious when the model changed last, but still happens all the time. build date for the cab may be 2009, but the motorhome was built in 2010 and sold and registered 2011

The "drivers Fault" would be if I had not been driving at over 3500rpm's for at least 20 minutes on a regular basis the filter blocks and that would be down to my style of driving.

Out of interest, is it written anywhere in your Fiat handbook that this is a requirement?

i am fairly certain that the Euro 5 came in at the same time as the Dashboard rejig, so if you have the latest heater Knobs then you are likely to have a Euro 5

Um, at the risk of opening a whole can of double entendres, what do the latest knobs look like?

There doesn't seem to be anything in the paperwork or on the plates to tell me if it's Euro 4 or 5. It's a 3-litre engine with a 6-speed gearbox. Badges on the van itself just say '160 Multijet' and 'Power'.

OK to answer 2 questions

1. pictures below of Euro 4 and Euro 5 dash controls.

2, from the EURO 5 handbook..
Quote" Optimum conditions for completing the process ( DPF regeneration ) are achieved by travelling at 60 KM/H with engine revs above 2000 rpm. as an average the regeneration process last 15 minutes.

hope this helps

My knobs are different from both of the photos. In fact, I only have one knob - with 'Auto' written on it. The directional controls of the heater are all push buttons.

p165 of my handbook refers to Emergency Jump Starting.

Ahhh!

any reference in the index at the back to DPF refers to page 124 my book or Warning Lights, refers to page 157 my book and goes on to page 168.

aha at the last page of handbook :- Print No 603.81.907 - 05/ 2011 - 2 edition so i deduct from that may 2011.

There is no reference to DPF anywhere in my index - not under D for diesel, P for particulate or F for filter. And I haven't yet spotted any reference to it by flicking through the handbook. Perhaps I haven't got one!

Last page of handbook states Print no. 603.81.357 - 11/2009 - 6 edition, presumably Nov 2009.

Take that back. Apparently I have got one - it gets half-a-page mention on p122. But no mention of driving at high revs to regenerate. Just says regeneration is handled automatically by the ECU.

So all things considered, it seems likely that I have a Euro 4 engine.
