I have cancelled my BF Spanish Sailings for this year, bit peed off with them at the moment. But Still Keeping my BF Membership open as its the old version.

I was considering St.Malo - Portsmouth on a route back from Javea, Costa Blanca. But its still £220 ish

So I have checked out the Dieppe-Newhaven Route. With CAMC its looking around £130-£145 with Discount (I am too young for the over 60's discount).

So after that ramble, what crossings do people prefer, if travelling 4-5 hours North to Manchester ? I know some of you live 20 mins away. But just trying to work out what is best .

12:00 Day Cabin?
18:00 Day Cabin?
23:59 Bit of an odd time that one. We would get a cabin for that.

Best route to Manchester from Newhaven ?

We are booked outwards in May Depending on times going via M25 can be a bind so we are taking the late night crossing I will be doing the same on the return to get up and around the short section of M25 then M40 M42 up to Brum then up M6 or up M1 then A50 over to Stoke and up home to Cheshire

Since Sept 2020.
Check the prices from Cherbourg - it's probably around the same distance in France but will avoid the run from Newhaven up past Gatwick and round the M25 to the M40. There's a sailing at 12:00 on Thursdays that would get you home around 22:30 - 23:00 ish. £163 with Club Voyager, with a 4 berth inside cabin currently free on 20th June as an example.

I didnt think I would ever suggest the Portsmouth ferry but that 80 quid higher differential would have me thinking about it.

We Newhaven crossers when appropriate now but that is 90 minutes from home and Pompey is only 40 minutes but I always thought it was considerably more expensive. Newhaven to Manchester means you have to run the gauntlet of the A27 or M25 and both are equally as bad around rush hours. A much easier and quicker route from Portsmouth in my view and take the A34 up to the M40 past Oxford, I dont drive that route often but did it before Xmas and was an easy run

I tried to book the crossing below when BF publicly released their 2023/2024 Sailings.

Each time I got as far as booking and paying, the price was £385. But the system was overloaded and kept crashing

But I won't be paying this price

The night crossing you don't get much more than a couple of hours kip as they wake you up early so they can clean the cabins before docking.
Don't really need a cabin on the day crossings.

Best route to MANCHESTER P from Newhaven ?
I prefer A27, M27, M3, A34, M40.

to get to Manchester on the day required would mean having to get the Saturday.

So even with Discount its £647 one way

I would get the 1800 sailing and stay on the port after disembarking. Supposed to be £5 but they don't normally charge. You then fresh to go to Manchester next morning by whichever route you prefer.

Thanks for all your replies. Hope I didn't wast too much of your time.

I in the end opted for Brittany Ferries St. Malo - Portsmouth Day Sailing

£179.77 Plus £10 Outside day Cabin £189.77

I had a voucher for Club De Voyage £150 and 15% off so I only had to pay £39.77 and I don't pay that until July

We're considering taking the Newhaven - Dieppe route, as it puts us West of Paris, good run down to the Loire.

Can anybody tell me if DFDS does the over 60s discount, as i can't find it on the webiste?

Thx Neil

You need to phone them to get the over 60s discount. It's not available on line.

We have used that crossing a few times, apart from the first we always book a cabin, no matter what departure/arrival time. arrive at our destination refreshed.

Thanks Spridler, normally we'd go Hull - Rotterdam, but at £500 less from Newhaven, plus it's more Westerly than Rotterdamm, Newhaven makes more sense.
