Nope.. tried going out to the van and letting the tyres down...
But it is bloody chilly out side and woman said its got smaller
My mates wife had a spare tyre as they say, she went on a diet lost her spare tyre and he gained 6 inches ???

He would have had a height stick if you carry high loads it is compulsory. I need to find someone local who has one as I have a bloody great sat dome on my roof

What about an extending flag pole, the type that MHers use at shows, rallies etc? You could alter it so when extended it is a couple of inches over your MH's height, it would be easy to store when collapsed and you could just extend it when the need arises ...

This is the pukka bit of kit.

ideal if you have changing load heights but for a MH whose height doesn't change (unless you stick something else on top, or take something off) it seems a bit OTT when a flag pole will do and a lot of funsters have one anyway.

The transport company have to know the height of the loaded vehicle when they apply for the movement order, and at least in the UK the minimum heights of every road bridge are on the database used by the abnormal loads officer responsible for planning and authorising the route.

When I used to escort them, there were occasions where the load had to be moved into a specific lane to go under certain bridges as the necessary height was only available at one point in the span, there were times when utility services had to be present to take down power or telephone lines and replace them afterwards, or remove and refit bollards and street furniture. I remember one occasion where a metal girder bridge had to be unbolted and lifted by cranes to allow a load through!

The difficulty you've got with a flagpole is if the highest area is not at the side, eg raised skylight, sat dome, etc you don't have a horizontal leg at 90 degrees across this.

Er, no ... you haven't read my posts correctly ... you need to extend and mark YOUR flagpole in advance at the highest point of your MH (ie so you know how far to extend it) - as only you will use it, it doesn't need to be 'adjustable' as your MH's height will have been set on it. Then, when you need to check the clearance of a possible obstacle/low bridge etc, you just need to extend it to the marks you've made on the pole and see if it touches at the top, if it does you know you won't get under.

Thanks for your replies. I don’t really want to spend £76 +vat for 1. measurement because once I know the height of my MH I will make my own telescopic stick from plastic tube bits and bobs for a couple of quid and keep it in my belly locker. I think that tomorrow I need to ring around a few transport companies and see how I get on. I will reward them with some bags of custard and jam doughnuts from the local co-op

Why not fit a microswitch alarm to the top of the pole, then mount it on the front bumper.

Many years ago the business was located in an old Mill complex and the building we were in had a large steel/glass canopy about 80m long that our loading bay was in the middle of, we had a Artic arrive and in place to unload, however, once unloaded the Vehicle rose higher and got stuck under the Canopy, we resolved it by letting most of the Air out of the Tyres until it dropped enough (only just) to get clear.

Good that it works but isn’t this all a bit “Heath Robinson” we all of us have some form of Technology in our MH’s and one of the most popular is the simple Reversing Camera and for the life of me I can’t understand why they have remodelled the same features to show the Roof of a MH, low bridge/ trees/ hose in washing bay etc etc. Simples.
Now some bu@@er is going oh yes why didn’t we think of that and cash in:doh:
