Evening all,

I have a problem with my Dell lap top, it has shut me out.....let me explain, For some reason any file or document I try to open, I get a popup which says:

"The required operation requires Elevation"

Any advice on how to "elevate" would be very much appreciated.

This has got me completely foxed so thank you all in advance.

Thank you TheHat,

I have followed the instructions, but I do not have an external hard drive , these files and doc's are on the main hard drive.

But thanks for the suggestion, if you have you any other pointers, I would appreciate the chance to try them.

According to my son you have lost permissions for your control. User access control is too high?
Have alook in control panel. Is it on a domain?

More than toes wet now!
I'm running "Vista home premium"
This is from distant memory as haven't used Vista for a while.
Try this -
Click Start
Click Control Panel
Click User Accounts (or something like that?)
and turn User Account Control off
then restart computer.

Sorry can't help with that. I am not a windows user sorry :(

But does sound like a user privilege issue.

It sounds like you have installed whatever software you are using as a different user to the files you are trying to access.

I am thinking. one possible issue is that you have multiple users on your system and your files were created by a different username to the one you are currently logged in with?
