Dealer dilemma
What a nightmare! Any sage advise would be gratefully appreciated....
Serenity Leisure of Bristol agreed on a figure to buy our Carthgo and this included them removing my Oyster skew satellite dish, with all the controllers and the wiring loom, with them retaining the base plate. It was agreed that we deliver our Carthago on Monday gone and this week they would remove the Oyster System. We are now Friday and they have our motorhome and no Oyster removed. The dealer has now emailed me and I quote "It is not straightforward to remove the system installed, in particular to how and where the control box has been mounted. They have cut a hole in the wood, in the panel above the door and if removed this will leave a gaping hole which I am not prepared to do as it becomes very detrimental to the motorhome. We cannot sell it with a hole. There is also a lot of labelling to remove in order to take out the wiring".
So - what do I do? He is saying he cannot remove the system as it leaves a hole - we didn't remove the Oyster as the dealer requested that they remove it professionally - so we trusted and adhered to our part of the deal.
Any ideas how to fight and resolve this dilemma? I have fought to keep my beloved Oyster System and am not prepared to loose the £2750 I paid for it just 18 months ago.

As they agreed, say OK leave it on your old motorhome and they charge more for it with it fitted, and fit a new one on the motorhome your buying at no cost to you  or the deals off and buy somewhere else. Bob.

Bob - that would be ok. But we've already bought a replacement motorhome, at a third of the price and we much prefer it - especially if we had my Oyster System on our new roof!!

Just tell the Dealer to carry out what has been agreed or make a cash adjustment in your favour.
You have done What was asked of You.
Worst deal I ever, ever, ever had was with Arnold Shark near Winsford cheshire.
I sold My Vaux Astra car on ebay privately and was Told the Vaux Meriva would be ready to pick up from Arnold Shark in a week's time.
I was told it was ready a week later, I said are you sure, Yes it is definately ready. I had a lift to pick it up and guess what ? It was in bits at the dealership. They wouldn't even refund My £100 deposit.
I said Why did You say that it was ready when it wasn't. We have been busy was the reply. They sent Me the V5 logbook through the post. They said that i had to buy said car even though it wasn't prepared with MOT faults { no wipers working or fitted }. I got My money back after about 1 month via a cheque. They wanted My bank details for 'bank transfer', as if that was going to happen! There was 2 NUMBER PLATES on display at Arnold Shark that said 'PROMISES DELIVERED'. Don't know who wrote that, Pinocchio Perhaps?
I then bought another Meriva from Dickens Vauxhall Wrexham who were absolutely 'FABULOUS'.

Well then its deal or no deal, and probably not a great time to sell private, but then it depends on what the dealer is offering and someone might get a bargain and buying a new oyster you may still make a little more  do you feel lucky. Bob.

What have you got in Writing!. That is the first and most important question. Assuming you can back up with documentation, then you have the right to dictate the terms. The down side is if they dig their heels in you WILL have to sue.

Becks took the Oyster system out of my Carthago to transfer to my new van and left what I presume was the same hole. They sold the Carthago a week or two later and rang me to ask what used to be in the hole! They had forgotten they had taken the system out but obviously had no problems selling the van. It could even be a selling feature, "ready prepared for fitting satellite system"......

I can see the dealers point, but they need to pay you more to leave it in / on , unlikely you will get what you paid though , see what they propose, have they mentioned price adjustment yet ?

Try and find a blanking plate or similar piece of ply that is colour matched to your interior. You may be able to find a donor piece from somewhere in your motorhome that’s not visible, locker, under seat etc, worth a look.

Taking the dish, controller and wiring out is going to leave a mess, salesman probably no idea just wanted a deal, workshop told him no chance once they looked at it. Simple choice now, either deal off and try and sell for the same price elsewhere accepting you will have 2 vans on your hands, or ask for £500 for sat dish, remember they are worth very little as everyone is moving to in van wifi, they will most likely say no then you just take it on the chin and walk away waving bye bye to your sat dish or you go back to option 1 and take the van home and have all the hassle and worry of trying to sell again.

Out of all my personal acquaintances ( as in real people, not on forums or FartBook ) I know of not ONE person who has even contemplated using wifi instead of off air reception.
Sure, there are lots of folk who have done it, but in the over all scheme of things such folk are still a very small minority

I am afraid in my albeit limited experience the same applies

Streaming TV over ‘tinternet is a youngsters and early adopters thing, most Motorhomers probably don’t fit that demographic! Talk to Milenials and they go all squiffy about the concept of watching telly according to a schedule set by someone else! My kidults haven’t watched over the air TV in years, everything is streamed via Netflix/Amazon/uTube etc.
I’ve got a Camos self seeking Sat and it’s great, as long as there aren’t any trees.....but equally I will happily steam....if there’s coverage!
Would I pay >£2K for a system?? Not a chance, would it tip the balance on a buying decision if one was already fitted....Yep, 100%

IMHO the dealer has a contract with you, contracts should not be broken without recourse - I would politely ask them how they intend to make things right, the law is on your side but just depends how much agro you enjoy!

Rgds

Enormous data usage and blocking bandwidth for everyone else. Sattellite tv is the way to go.

Its not really important to the thread either way, the OP has to decide if the sat is too valuable to him to let the van go and therefore pull out of the deal. He could try to negotiate more for the van as it now will still have a sat system installed, my only point was that unless the dealer offers him goodwill I wouldn't expect him to recover much if any of the £2750 he paid for it.

that is because we are in Norfolk and WiFi is not that good. Haha

To me the maths are not difficult, leave the day dish in as I originally installed and they pay for a new system in your new vehicle or walk away from the deal.

remove dish and controller, leaving the cables sealed through roof. then they buy you a new cable set. it really is simple

they probably have a buyer who has seen the van and wants to keep the satellite

Never could understand where they get the prices from for these satalite dishes. £2500 it’s as bad as the all singing all dancing levelling systems. Bit like that when we had a yacht. New bits of string were always expensive as was anything that had boat written on it. Trouble is when you come to trade them in the extras are worth nothing. Might make it easier to sell the MH but then again the guy may just want a Caravan Ariel and not be interested in satalites.
