A really good friend of mine ( I was his best man) has just turned 60 and decided to plunge into motorhome ownership and do weekends and odd weeks in uk

He has settled on a new Elddis 155 ( let’s not get into rights or wrongs regarding that), 1st van, no part ex, got the cash

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE HOW HARD IT IS FOR HIM TO SPEND HIS MONEY

Sales guys dont even take his name or number
The ones that do, then never ring him back

He has rung one dealer, where the salesman failed to call back and has rung again and spoken to the OWNER/MD who Himself promised to ring back and hasn't
A week into it now
The dealers all have stock of the 155.......its breathtaking

A friend of ours has had a similar experience! Got cash to spend and on a truck up to 40k. Spoke to four of the well known companies around the Nottingham/Mansfield area. None have come back to him?

Sign of the times we are in I think?

Kev

Oh I would, I’ve been looking at a new rig, very top end.

Manufacturers/dealers don’t reply, spoke to one who quoted but I wanted extras/modifications etc promised an email/price last Monday didn’t hear a thing

It’s not all down to dealers calling you back surely. They are dealing with customers.

If you want to do a deal then get your arse to the dealer and do the deal rather than talk about the deal you might be prepared to do.

Had same issues trying to buy new cars. They thought i was a tramp so never bothered. Little did they know i had wheelbarrow loads of money.
Looks like he will get his van reading above. Picture please when he gets it.

Yes Chris, but when you tell the MD that you are a BUYER and want a spec sheet of their extras, and the MD cant be arsed, imagine when you have an issue and want something off them...just saying

I got MY arse down to V4 Leisure and bought one, it was honestly like pulling teeth

I get that. I just think face to face is the only way to do this sort of business.

Couldn't put it better, never gave any notice of phones or especially emails , no substitute for face to face and cash in your hand.

Not always easy when working full time. That’s why we went to Preston rather than Perth for our (then) new Campscout. I suppose if you can afford to lose business ...

With vans flying off the forecourts at their current pace then I suspect the dealers will focus their attention (and their priority) on those who visit in person.

Cheshirecat57 There's lots of Elddis vans up our way but sadly not the 155.

Hes stuck at 45k ,probably a bit shy for a new Bailey, suppose a 76-4 would be nearest Frenchie equiv
Plus 45k is a really healthy budget, however it’s my bests mates birthday and I am currently having dinner and I am now far too drunk to stay on fun for the night as opinions come out 😂 PM me in the morning and we can do a Skype or chat or whatever and find him a van!

I was talking buying not selling

I'm still waiting 3 years down the line after talking to salesman (sales ??) at Knowepark. We asked about a new Hymer, discussed price, extras, delivery times, left it with him to come back to me with p/x price for our van he spent 20 minutes going over in the car park, and monthly cost etc.

Last Saturday evening at 20:41 I emailed every Knaus dealer asking if they had a Boxdrive model in stock to view and test drive. By twenty past eleven that night one of the smaller dealers had replied, other of the smaller or caravan only suppliers have replied. It is notable that even now (same time three days later) the one that I think is the largest dealer has not bothered to reply! Apathy or what?
Sad to say that it seems there is not a single one of that model available until early summer 2021!

That’s no use to them, they can only take max £10,000 in cash or it could be money laundering 💰💰💰💰👎👎👎😜😜😜

What a load of made up poppy cock. Money is money.
Totally agree, no one turns up with a suitcase of Cash thee days.

One Issue is that one of the dealers we visited the sales guys desks where next to one another, the sales guys where just show boating (showing off to each other) and not focussing on customer need.

you will be aware that Selling is interpersonal and relational, a sales person needs to take some interest in the customer listen to their needs. If they can present the right product to the customer, but they also need to establish: Does the customer have the money (it may mean finance has to be arranged), do they have the authority (in this instance did they bring their partner). and finally do they have the need (Covid and staycations have helped this year). Up selling quite a few people can be up-sold so for example a TV, 2nd Battery, Gaslow etc which all helps with Margins.

The sales person ideally should now their product's (many do not appear do not appear to do so)

When we brought our MoHo, I had a spreadsheet tracker for costs and discounts, I was dealing with the head of sales who did not have a clue of what had been agreed around costs/discounts and wanted to charge quite a few thousand more. He did not have a spread sheet just scribbled notes which made it look like amateur night. I do not wish to be too harsh but if you do not keep notes and costs on a spread sheet its no wonder the head of sales lost track, when he looked at my spread sheet the discussion was over and the agreed price paid.

If a sales person is engaged at thier job, having a good relationship with customers, keeping good notes and tracking costs and chases up issues on behalf of customers you have a good employee. I suspect many sales people get fatigued and that is when customers do not receive call backs and things not getting done, its not an excuse but suspect its the way things are.

They don’t want cash buyers anymore, more money to be made on the finance side.
it’s a real pain now trying to by anything if you don’t need finance.
As Simon says Money is money we paid cash for ours and there were no penalties for doing so

Bought ours from Herefordshire Adria dealer (don’t know if it’s appropriate to start plugging individual firms) and service was excellent. Friendly, hugely informative, not at all pushy. Couldn’t have been better.

Main Land Rover dealer in Manchester would not take more than £9k in actual cash 2 years ago. I would class this dealer as a "High Value Dealer". They probable just ain't registered. A couple of other main dealers refused to take more than £xxxs cash over the recent years........about 10 years i guess.
There will always be dealers that will/can take cash?????
