Well if nothing lights up when you turn the ignition key, then my first check would be a volt meter across the Cab battery terminals. Maybe there were lights left on or something.

Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
Why had the battery been changed in the first place? Possibly the replacement was done to address a charging problem? Is the engine cranking over on the starter or are you only getting a click when the key is turned?

Does the cab light go dimmer when you try to start it?

If not, it's not trying to run the starter motor. The battery may be OK, and the problem is something else. Starter solenoid, immobilizer etc.

Sorry, missed the 'no ignition lights' bit. Cab light OK but no ignition lights sounds like an immobilizer problem.

As he's a 'read only' funster now we'll probably never know the real reason ... so now we have 'leaky Kontikis' and 'Konked-out-tikis'!
